Will Risk Named to Two High-Performance Initiatives

ROCS Senior White swimmer, William Risk, was named last week to high-performance initiatives at both the provincial and national levels.

This coming weekend, William will travel to the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre to take part in a Swim Ontario Distance and Open Water camp, run by Ontario Swim Academy Coach Don Burton, and Swimming Canada Distance and Open Water Coach Mark Perry. This is a continuation of the provincial initiative that saw Will travel to Miami last spring to compete in 800m and 5km open water races. Coach Nico will be attending and hopefully can bring back some knowledge and training tips about open water swimming to share with all of ROCS' swimmers and triathletes.

Also, Swimming Canada has selected Will to be part of their National Development 2018 Summer ID team. William was identified for this program thanks to his performance at the 2018 Canadian Junior Championships where he finished 7th overall among all boys 14-15 in the country. He was one of five swimmers selected from the Eastern Ontario region. While there are so far no specific events announced for this team, the program's goal is “to provide Canada’s identified swimmers and their coaches, the development opportunities to establish the will, attitude and skills required to race to the podium at the Senior International level.”

Everyone here at ROCS is eagerly waiting the announcement of more details about the team and are excited about the opportunity that Will and Coach Nico now have to develop their knowledge in swimming. A hearty congratulations to William for these selections, it is a testament to the exceptional commitment and effort he continues to put forward every day in training. We will be excitedly announcing further details as they come, so stay tuned! ROCS ROCK!
