Rapids Head Coach Robert Pettifer has just been selected as the Head Coach – Pool for the Canadian Pan-Am Games Team. Pettifer has been on staff for multiple Canadian teams and coaching mentorship groups, but this is his first time as a national team head coach. The Pan-Am team will be selected at Canadian Trials this spring from the top performing athletes not selected for the World Championships or World Juniors teams. Congratulations to Amanda McCallum, Samuel Pei, and James Kwaksistala for being selected to receive Provincial Carding from Swim BC and the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific for the 2018-2019 Season. They were selected for their proximity to the Swimming Canada “On-Track” monitoring times for the 200 Free, 200 IM, and 100 backstroke, respectively. As a part of their carding, the athletes will get support from RaceTek for race video and data and receive provincial team attire.

Three Senior National squad swimmers have been named to performance teams. Samuel Pei and William MacDougall have been selected for the Swim BC Regional Prospects camp, which gives an opportunity for up-and-coming athletes to have exposure to a provincial or higher level camp. The camp will take place at the end of November and will include technical, mental, and nutritional coaching. Both Pei and MacDougall were selected for their long course performances last year. 2018 PSW Fall Invitational - By Morgan Mark This weekend, the Richmond Rapids made a splash at the PSW Fall Invitational. Participating groups included RD Blue, RD Black, PAG, NAG, SPP and NAT. Over three sessions, 72 Rapids swimmers competed in 100m free, 100m breast, 100m back, 100m fly, 200m free, 200m IM and 50m free. By Vlad Volchkov On June 21 st, the Richmond Rapids sent a squad of 18 swimmers to Kelowna to compete in the Tier I Summer Provincial Championships. The Summer Championships were a three-day timed final swim meet with two sessions per day. Throughout the course of the weekend, most of the swimmers had eight individual swims and at least one relay. Congratulations to Amanda McCallum for being named to the 2018 Swimming Canada ID Team! McCallum qualified based on her performances at national-level competitions this spring. This is the second time she has been named to the team. The selection is a part of a Swimming Canada initiative to develop the next generation of the Canadian international swimmers. As a part of the ID Team, McCallum has been recognized as a significant up-and-coming swimming talent with skills to compete at the senior international level.

By Vlad Volchkov On May 5th, the Richmond Rapids played host to local Canadian and American teams at the annual West Coast Open meet at Watermania. With most of the Rapids swimmers now in the final stages of the season, the coaches saw a lot of well-executed tactics and skill maintenance by both the senior and junior development athletes. by Vlad Volchkov On April 21, the Rapids sent a squad of 77 swimmers to compete in the Jessica Deglau Invitational at UBC, hosted by the Vancouver Pacific Swim Club. A two-day meet, the Deglau Invitational was the year’s first opportunity for many of the Rapids swimmers to practice long course racing tactics.
