Vincent Chung Head Coach

Coach Vincent is returning for his 6th season with Chena Swim Club and his 3nd as Head Coach. Prior to joining Chena in 2016, Vincent coached 9 years with the Burnaby Mountain Mantas swim club, including 3 years as Head Coach as well as 2 years as a volunteer assistant coach under Swim BC Technical Director, Cory Beatt.

Vincent is an NCCP Level 3 coach with over 15 years experience in the sport. Vincent was selected as a member of the Swimming Canada Select Coaches group in 2020 and 2021, as well as a coach for the Swim BC Prospects Men and Women Prospets Camps in 2022. He believes in a personal approach centred on building meaningful relationships, developing sustainably over the long term, and exploring and maximizing the potential of each athlete. In the 2021 season, Vincent was selected as a member of the Swimming Canada Select Coaches group. Vincent's goals are to help his swimmers accomplish their goals, to inspire those around him to love the sport as much as he does, and to lead the club to continue a tradition of community, positivity, and performance. 

Emmy Obedkoff Youth Program Director

Coach Emmy is excited to return to Chena for her second year leading the Youth program. Coach Emmy is passionate about swimming and has been involved in the sport for over 20 years as a swimmer and coach. Over the last 10 years, Coach Emmy has coached hundreds of swimmers across Kelowna and the Lower Mainland and most recently spent 5 years as Head Coach of the Richmond Kigoos swim club. Coach Emmy also gained head coaching experience early in her coaching career with the Kelowna Ogopogo swim club. Coach Emmy is a certified NCCP level 1 coach and holds a degree in psychology from the University of British Columbia. Throughout her coaching career, Coach Emmy has primarily worked with the youth age group as she loves creating a positive environment to promote an interest in learning, enjoyment of the sport and confidence amongst this age group. She believes every child can thrive when they develop a positive relationship with their coach and she strives to motivate each swimmer to achieve their best through positive technical feedback and encouragement. Coach Emmy is passionate about sharing her love of swimming with others and aims to develop well rounded athletes through a technique centered program.

George Hill Lead Junior Coach

Look for the exhilarating and enthusiastic on deck and you will find Coach George! With 10 years of coaching experience specifically tailored to the Junior level, George brings a methodical yet energetic life to the pool and his swimmers. This year George will be taking on the important role of Lead Coach for the Junior Program, running the Junior Green and Junior Blue groups and overseeing Junior White and Chena Skills. George will also be leading Chena’s Volunteer Coach Program, mentoring and guiding young swimmers into future Chena Coaches. One can be sure that with George at the helm, Chena’s Junior Program will be the solid foundation of our Club, developing today’s Juniors into tomorrow’s Olympians.

George holds a degree from the University of British Columbia in Civil Engineering and is a certified NCCP Level 1 coach. His previous coaching experience includes 5 years with the Canadian Dolphin Swim Club, 1 year with Chena (2012) and 3 years with Cruisers Aquatics. Outside the pool, George loves outdoor athletics including rowing, swimming, running, cycling, windsurfing, skiing and hiking. If you thought swimming in Deep Cove was cold, try a glacial fed lake half covered in ice!

Nicolas Hernandez Senior Regional Coach

Coach Nicolas Hernandez returns this season as our Senior Development Coach. Coach Nico has over 10 years of competitive swimming on the National and International stage as a Chena swimmer and aims to give back to the younger swimmers and inspire them to be the best swimmers and individuals they can be. Nicolas is a recent graduate from Simon Fraser University with a degree in Economics that he completed while balancing swimming with Chena, and working in the financial planning field. Nicolas is a NCCP level 1 coach and is excited in being able to share his experience with the up and coming generation of swimmers.

Caroline Bridgman Youth White Coach

Coach Caroline is excited for another great year at the pool! She began swimming with Chena, following in the footsteps of her brother, and became a skills coach along the way where she fell in love with coaching. Caroline has swam with for almost 10 years and has been coaching for 6 years. Caroline is currently in her final year at BCIT, where she is studying film. 

Coach Caroline wants all her swimmers to improve, gain new skills, meet new friends, and most of all, have fun! With her first-hand knowledge of the world of competitive swimming, she is determined to help all her swimmers succeed in their goals. She can’t wait to see the swimmers and parents on deck this year!
