May 2022 Goldfins Swimmers of the Month

Jennifer Robinson

Sami Benning (Gold 14) - I have had the pleasure of working with Sami Benning these past two seasons.  She has been a joy to watch as she strives to improve her technique with dedication and hard work.  She thrives on the harder sets and strives to keep ahead of the pack yet she maintains good swim etiquette and sportsmanship in and out of the pool.

Sami has had a very successful 2021 – 2022 swim season.  This season, she has posted 19 new provincial qualifying time standards, (8 short course and 11 long course).   Sami realized her season goal, posting six (6) Canada Games minimum qualifying time standards.

During the month of May 2022, Sami competed in the Lasers Long Course Invitational, where she competed in 11 individual events (12 & Over), plus two mixed relays.  Sami placed first in the 800M Freestyle, improving her time by 159.31 seconds.  She placed second place in the 100M Fly, 200M Backstroke and in the 400M Individual Medley events.  At this same meet, Sami posted five (5) new Swim Saskatchewan AA qualifying times.

Not only has she shown strong performance in her racing but her dedication and commitment to training and her positive support for your fellow training group members.

Thank you and congratulation Sami for all your personal accomplishments and for being such a positive role model for our young Goldfins swimmers.

Jonathan Arndt (Gold 16) - Jonathan has been one of the most dedicated swimmers I have coached. He climbed his way up from Blue group last season and joined the G16 group since September. My first impression to him was that he likes to be first. He was among the first people to arrive on pool deck every morning to setup the pool for everybody. His dedication and perseverance were constantly shown during training, he always finds a way to push beyond his comfort level and thrives to be better. I am most impressed by his tenacity when he was determined to swim under 10 minutes for the 800m freestyle back in February at Al Anderson’s Winter Classic and he did it.

Jonathan has been holding 90% attendance in last 3 months and that’s one of many reasons he has shown improvement in his performance. Congratulation Jonathan. It has been a pleasure to have you in G16 and please keep up the good work.
