Goldfins Will Send a Strong Contingent to Compete at the 2023 Speedo Western Canadian Championships
The 2023 Speedo Western Canadian Championships will bring together some of Western Canada’s top swimmers, in both the Olympic and Paralympic Programs. The Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club will be traveling to Calgary, AB to compete in this 4-day competition. It is a large regional championship attended by swimmers from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba as well as clubs from across the country. This event will be a long course (50M) competition, hosting 56 teams with approximately 500 swimmers in attendance. In previous years, these Championships have played host to future Olympians and World Champions, making it a can’t-miss event for all swimming enthusiasts.
“The Goldfins will be sending 12 swimmers to race this weekend at the Canadian Western Championships in Calgary, Alberta,” said Steven Hitchings, Goldfins Head Coach “The weekend will be a great opportunity for swimmers to match themselves against the best swimmers in Western Canada in an exciting and team orientated swim meet.”
“Our mix of four girls and eight boys allows for everyone to get in and swim in the relays events, in addition to relays being a fun event, having these relays will demonstrate the depth of swimming the Club is starting to produce.” Hitchings continued, “I am looking forward to taking on the challenge of racing our best in a big moment.”
The Saskatoon Goldfins will be represented by: Sami Benning, Keiran Dyck, Abby Gebhardt, Ian Genest, Holden Lees, Isabel Magus, Rebeka Mourre, Obi Nguyen, Dorian Opitz, Rhett Smith, Bryce Tierney, and Siarhei Tsyrhanovich, along with Head Coach, Steven Hitchings.

Preliminaries – 9:00 AM Finals – 6:00 PM – MST
Thursday, March 16, 2023 – Events: 200 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 200 Breaststroke, 800 (W) & 1500 (M) Freestyle
Friday, March 17, 2023 – Events: 100 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, 50 Fly & 400 IM
Saturday, March 18, 2023 – Events: 400 Freestyle, 100 Fly, 50 Breaststroke & 200 Backstroke
Sunday, March 19, 2023 – Events: 200 Fly, 50 Free, 200 IM, 800 (M) & 1500 (W) Freestyle
