About TIDE

The Saint John Fundy Swim Team (TIDE), is a competitive swim team offering professional coaching and skill development for all ages and abilities. By offering a full range of swim levels, from beginners to youth and teens, we can promote swimming for life. The goal of our team is to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability. We are a non-profit club, run by a Board of Directors made up of swimmer parents.  Saint John Fundy Tide Swim Team encourages team spirit and camaraderie amongst all swimmers at all levels.

Our focus will always be geared towards building confidence & positive self esteem! With your support the TIDE will keep coming in!

Join our Team! Saint John Fundy Tide Swim Team works with children from 6-18 as well as adults promoting the benefits of sport, teamwork and physical fitness. Our swimmers represent the Greater Saint John Region at over a dozen meets each year, a number of our members have gone on to swim at the Provincial, University and National levels such as the Canada Games. TIDE welcomes all swimmers and our coaches help each athlete develop at a pace that is appropriate for their ability and age.

Pre-Competitive and Competitive Programs

 

MIGHTY SHARKS

Our group of Mighty Sharks' are introduced to the “FUNdamentals” stage of Competitive Swimming through Swim Canada's Long Term Athlete Development Strategy (LTAD). The following skills are introduced through water games, various exercises & metaphors:

 Basic techniques of the 4 competitive strokes

 Proper kicking

 Dives & Turns

 Development of ABC's Agility; Balance; Coordination

 FAST FUN - Anaerobic Speed of 8 seconds or less

 Flexibility in & out of the water

 Spatial Awareness

In addition to the basic water skills, our swimmers learn Positive Group Dynamics through team building exercises; initiating pool rules & by executing proper lane etiquette.

 

Junior "T" & "I" 

Our group of Junior "T" & "I" swimmers are introduced to the Learn to Train stage of Competitive Swimming through Swim Canada's Long Term Athlete Development Strategy (LTAD). The skills gained from our Shark program will now be further developed in the course of 3 one hour training practices per week. In addition to further developing:

 4 Competitive Strokes

 Proper kicking

 Dives, Turns & IM Transitions

 ABC's Agility; Balance; Coordination

 Anaerobic Speed of 8 seconds or less

 Flexibility in & out of the water

 Spatial Awareness Practices will also consist of high repetition & low intensity skill focus followed by some intensity progression to challenge skill acquisition.

Junior "T" & "I" swimmers will be introduced to the following:

 Aerobic Endurance- FUN Fitness

 Tactics & Decision Making

 Aerobic Power

 Strength Endurance

The focus in Junior B is personal improvement, fun and team spirit. Swimmers will be introduced to competition, and will develop friendships and positive self-worth through a variety of games and exercises.

 

Junior "D" & "E"

Our group of Junior "D" & ":E" swimmers are building on the Learn to Train stage of Competitive Swimming through Swim Canada's Long Term Athlete Development Strategy (LTAD). The skills gained from our Junior B program will now be further developed in the course. In addition to refining:

 ABC's Agility; Balance; Coordination

 Anaerobic Speed of 8 seconds or less

 Flexibility in & out of the water

 Spatial Awareness A strong focus will be placed on the following:

 Dives, Turns & IM Transitions

 4 Competitive Strokes

 Proper kicking

 Aerobic Endurance and Power

 Tactics & Decision Making

 Strength Endurance

 Mental Preparation

 Racing Strategies

Each practice will be approximately 2500 to 3000 meters and consist of high repetition & low intensity skill focus followed by some intensity progression to challenge skill acquisition. Our focus for Junior "D" & "E" will be Racing Strategies & Mental Preparation... Fun & Team Spirit.

 

Seniors 

The Seniors group is for swimmers competing in provincial, Atlantic and regional competitions. Individuals in this group are expected to be motivated, committed to improving skills and performance, and dedicated to creating a strong sense of team pride with all club members. The senior group is a reflection of the stages “Train to Train”, “Train to Compete” and “Compete to Win” in Swim Canada's Long Term Athlete Development Strategy (LTAD). A strong focus will be placed on the following:

 Dives, Turns & IM Transitions

 4 Competitive Strokes

 Proper kicking

 Aerobic Endurance and Power

 Tactics & Decision Making

 Strength Endurance

 Mental Preparation

 Racing Strategies
