JUNIOR COMPETITIVE

Description (Designed for ages 11-14)
This group is for 11 & Over swimmers at the PASS/early LMR levels.  These swimmers are working on refining the basic legal strokes and turns they have learned in the silver groups, community fitness or swim lessons.  This group is at the FUNdamental/Learning to Train Stage in the Long Term Athlete Development model (LTAD).  These swimmers are attending competitions regularly depending on their level (PASS or LMR).

Pre-requisite

  • 50 m front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke and dolphin kick (Red Cross Level 9/10)
  • 11 to 14 years old

Goals      

  • Have Fun!
  • Work on refining all 4 strokes, starts and turns
  • Follow basic competitive rules all the time
  • Establish regular attendance habits (3 out of 4 workouts)
  • Attend PASS level competitions and qualify for LMR competitions
  • Understand lane etiquette and pace clock
  • Aim for gold standard of 4:00 200IM and 5:40 300 free

Swimmer Expectations

  • Strive to attend all workouts, attendance requirement of 65%
  • Arrive 5 minutes before practice starts so you can start on time
  • Bring a water bottle to every workout
  • Participate at “Round Table Club Meets” and other club events or functions
  • Successfully attend and participate in at least 2 PASS level competition
  • Treat others with respect and care
  • Have a positive attitude
  • Adhere to Athlete Code of Conduct

Parent Expectations

  • Arrange to get your swimmer to practices and events on time
  • Contact your coach if your swimmer is going to miss workout
  • If watching workout or a swim meet, to stay in the viewing areas and remain off the pool deck or out of appropriate areas
  • Contact your coach directly if you have any concerns regarding your swimmer and their training
  • Stay up-to-date with club news via hand-outs, emails, website, bulletin boards and/or communication with coaches and board
  • Ensure all fees are paid on time and account is in order
  • Parent Participation Points: help out at SKSC club functions, hosted events, timing at PASS meets, etc...
  • Treat other parents, athletes and coaches with respect
  • Have a positive attitude and do not engage in negative gossip in the bleachers with other parents
  • Adhere to Parent Code of Conduct

Graduation Guidelines into next group

  • Must be able to swim all strokes legally for 50 metres and demonstrate proper technique
  • Must be able to do legal dive starts, flip turns and open turns
  • Must have attended at least 1 LMR competition
  • Gold/LMR Standard at PASS level (under 4:00min 200IM, under 5:40 300FR)
  • Recommended 75% attendance (to ensure swimmer is ready for next level)
  • Successful two week trial period

 (Please note making time standard does not automatically qualify or disqualify swimmer to move into the next group.  Move ups are solely up to coaches’ discretion.)
