Cara MacDonald - 2022 High School Graduate

Cara MacDonald - 2022 Graduate and Recipient of the Tom Anzai Memorial Award Scholarship
Cara is graduating from Glebe HS and will be attending Queens University of Charlotte, in North Carolina to study Engineering Physics and joining the Royals Triathlon program. Cara moved to SWOTT in the fall of 2016 and has steadily been attaining higher and higher levels in the sport.
At the start of Cara’s swim career, she excelled in distance free and breaststroke events and within a couple of years, she started making Ontario Provincials and Eastern Nationals in sprint free and back events. Cara is a testament to the importance of being an all-round swimmer at a young age as well as a multi-sport athlete! She has a ‘can-do’ attitude and attacks everything she puts her mind too!
When asked about her favorite SWOTT memories, she states she can’t choose as she has so many! She recalls team travels where we cheer for more pasta and dance on the bus on the way home, to staying on deck at for 12 hrs at the Montreal meet followed by a very cold plunge into warm-up the next day! Cara loved swimming relays, surviving hard practices and challenges together with teammates, but also racing teammates where races were so close only the timing system could tell who won!
Other memories, included going out for breakfast after practices when there was no school, all the times we killed ourselves laughing, year-end BBQ’s and all our fun meets at Brewer where we swam with the younger swimmers! She has fond memories where the final heat dressed up in Olympic gear and walked onto deck with commentary! But mostly, just having such a supportive and fun second family to wake up to every day! We can’t wait to watch your Triathlon career take off Cara!
