Karina Gruson - 2022 Graduate and Recipient of the Tom Anzai Memorial Award Scholarship

Karina is graduating from Nepean High School will be entering into Queens University’s Nursing Program in the fall and will start her varsity swimming career with the Queens Gaels.

Karina started in our pre-comp Guppies in the Spring of 2013 and moved up immediately to Whales in the fall. She joined our competitive Development group in January 2014 and early on started to showed her prowess in butterfly by making Regionals and cracking the top 8 in the 50 and 100 fly as a 10-year-old.

One of Karina’s favorite memories was being selected to the 10&U SWOTT “Div 2” team and she recalls it was fun team driven meet! Karina has continued to show her all around development in the sport by racing all strokes and distances over her 9 years with SWOTT! She won her first Regional Championship medal at age 12 in the 50 fly, and was top 8 in all her other events. At age 12, Karina was top-8 at Festivals and then went on to place 5th and 6th in the 100/200 fly at ON Provincial Swimming Championships.

Karina recalls some of her best memories were racing with her 7 other teammates at the 2019 Eastern National Championships in Quebec City. Karina concluded that 2018-2019 season with fantastic results at her first Junior Nationals, where she placed 7th in the 200 IM and 10th in both the 100 back and 100 breast.
