Greetings and welcome to the Thunderbolts swim club, the premiere swim club in Northwestern, Ontario.

If you are new to our club or swam with our club but were unable to swim the past two seasons due to COVID restrictions then you are in the right spot.  We are excited to announce the return of popular pre-competitive program for the fall of 2021.  There have been several changes to our program that will be explained below.

Our club offers programming for swimmers as young as 6 years old up to University aged swimmers divided into two major groups.  our Pre-competitive program for swimmers looking to discover the world of competitive swimming and our competitive program for the swimmer looking to excel in the swim world.

The first step when joining our club is determining where your swimmer fits into our program.  You can read up more on our programs above under the drop down menu for programs.

Once you have an idea your swimmer will need to be assessed and you can email our Team Administrator Liisa. Your swimmer must be able to swim unassisted for at least 15m to be considered for our club and a swim coach will talk to you at the end of your assesment with the recomended group and next steps.

The second step will be registering for a pre-competitive or competitive group.  Registration for new members will open on Friday, September 10th.

FAQ

Q: Why are we being asked to do an assessment even if we were previously on the swim team in 2019 or prior?

A: Although we are excited to restart our pre-competitive program we still have restrictions from our governing body that guides how we operate.  The biggest restriction is no physical contact between coaches and swimmers AND swimmers must remain spaced out 2m at all times.  By doing an assessment we can ensure that (1) your swimmers is placed in the appropriate group and (2) there are no surprises.

Q: Have there been any changes to the pre-competitive program for 2021-2022?

A: There have been several major changes;

  • Swimmers must be able to swim unassisted for 15m or further  and be 6 & over to join our pre-competitive programs.
  • Swimmes must remain 2m apart at all times while in the water (swimmers can rest on lane ropes and the wall)
  • Swimmers must be masked up on the pool deck prior to entering the water.

You can read more information on our Return to swimming plan.  Please note this is a working document and as more information becomes available it will be updated.

Q: Where do you get your guidance/information on how to make these changes?

A: The Head Coach, with the support of the board of directors, takes directions from our two major governing bodies.  Swim Ontario is our provincial body who interprets it's directions from our national governing body Swimming Canada.
