2020-2021 Program Descriptions

National Group

These swimmers are focusing on achieving their National standards and with aspirations to achieve at the highest levels.  This group trains 9 times a week and requires the most dedication and commitment to our sport.  Good work ethic and effort on a day to day basis is also required. Generally, this is for high-school aged athletes but exceptions can be made under Head Coach approval.  Athletes are committed to an aerobic/IM development and aspire to swim eventually in University/Professionally.  Swimmers and their families are expected to assist with fundraising (including but not limited to Swim-a-thon, raffle, hosting competitions, etc.)

TRAINING BREAK                  1-week off at Christmas from December 24th to 30th

TRAINING CAMP                    Spring training camp + train through March break

SEASON LENGTH                  44+ week season from October 5th to July 31st or until final competition

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT       Board, Pull Buoy, Snorkel, Hand Paddles, Finger Paddles, Sponge, Tempo Trainer, Fins

 

Provincial Group

These swimmers are focusing on qualifying for Ontario Provincial standards This group trains 8 times a week and requires dedication and commitment to our sport.  Good work ethic and effort on a day to day basis is also required. Generally, this is for high-school aged athletes but exceptions can be made under Head Coach approval.  Athletes are committed to an aerobic/IM development. Swimmers and their families are expected to assist with fundraising (including but not limited to Swim-a-thon, raffle, hosting competitions, etc.)

Senior Development Group

This is a group designed for the developing swimmer.  This is a skill orientated level where the swimmers will learn the basics of competitive swimming and be given several opportunities to compete regionally with the possibility of participating in an out-of-region competition if the opportunity exists.  It is a fun environment with the skills of the sport intertwined.  It is at this level where the swimmer is challenged to perfect all the basics of the sport like the four different strokes, starts and turns.  Our goal is to keep it a fun and relaxed environment that will encourage the swimmer to move on in the sport. Swimmers and their families are introduced to fundraising (including but not limited to Swim-a-thon, raffle, hosting competitions, etc.)

Junior Development Group

This is a group designed for the swimmer who is at the regional level and working towards provincial qualifying times.  The goal of the level is to improve skills of the swimmers and introduce some more advanced training concepts.  While the focus is still on skill development, more and more is done to improve their endurance and fitness levels.  With many opportunities to compete at local and out of town swim meets, the emphasis at this level will be to have fun while learning the essentials of a great sport. Swimmers and their families are expected to assist with fundraising (including but not limited to Swim-a-thon, raffle, hosting competitions, etc.)
