Something about the sun and hot weather makes it the perfect season for swimming.  If we could just get an outdoor pool here in Summerland, this could be a desirable training grounds for National Teams.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Summer Break, but for a select few there was still some unfinished work.

With Canada Day comes Swim BC's Yearly Provincials this year in one of the best facilities in Western Canada--Commonwealth Pool Victoria.

This year Swim BC decided to open up the event to all age groups, so University swimmers from UBC, UofA, Uof Vic, and UofC were present making the competition tougher for the 16&O categories.

Three of Nine Orca swimmers who qualified made the trip to Victoria and joined forces with the High Performance Association K.W.I.C:   Sydney Wilson, Taylor Smith, and Dirk Mora-Moolman.

At the higher level, personal best times and medals are harder to come by but our Summerland Athletes were able to achieve some of these accolades.

Sydney Wilson: Came home with a Swim BC Silver Medal in the 14&U 20 Medley Relay.  Sydney swam the Backstroke leg in a time of 32.99 sec which was a personal best time.

Taylor Smith: Qualified for a Top 8 A Final as well as several consolation finals.  Taylor earned 2 personal best times in club record time in the 200 and 400IM.

Dirk Mora-Moolman: Swam to four personal best times which were all Orca Club Records in the 100 Back 100 Fly, 200 IM and 200 Back.

For the next two weeks the WORLD AQUATIC CHAMPIONSHIPS are being held in South Korea.  Currently Synchro, Water Polo and Diving are being broadcasted but swimming will start July 21st.  Get to know some of the names before next year's Olympics in Tokyo.
