GOLD15 Getting back into training after the Christmas break was an easy enough process.  The month of January, for high-school kids, is the transition point for school and for swimming as well.  Our plan for the weeks leading to the Grand Prix meet was to get back to a point where we were fit and strong with a big emphasis on kicking.  The GP meet is comparable to the UCSC Fall Start Up at the start of the season where swimmers are ‘reacquainting’ themselves with racing, in this case it’s...

What a weekend of swimming for our UCSC swimmers at the two-day Holiday Classic competition! With over 120 swimmers participating in the meet coming from squads ranging TREX to Black 15’s, UCSC was a dominating presence on deck and in the pool! As the meet was relatively small and there were finals for all age groups, swimmers were given a great opportunity to race their events and achieve their goals. With these favourable conditions and given it was the last meet of the year, we saw a huge number of...

It had been 3 seasons since the Dinos were last at the Ontario Junior International meet at the Pan American Games legacy pool in Scarborough, Ontario.  The excitement and hype of the meet did not disappoint! The 9 swimmers who flew out to OJI one week after the end of the Youth Cup in the same facility had high expectations based on how well their teammates swam.  The meet had some definite international flair with the Great Britain team, Scottish team and Japanese teams as well as a dozen...

Thirty Dinos competed at the ManSask Championships this past weekend. The weekend started off great and ended even better with many Dinos on team travel for the first time ever. Upon arrival in Saskatoon, the swimmers were tasked with shopping for their own on-deck snacks for the weekend. With the assistance of the coaches, the swimmers made very good decisions (for the most part) when it came to fueling their bodies for the weekend ahead.  With the hotel being within walking distance of the pool and the sessions being relatively...

Well we made it to the last session. The last day of the meet can often bring with it the blues. However, the blues didn’t come. In fact the opposite happened, the Dinos were full of energy and eager to hit the pool and perform. Most swims were on target and solid. Swimmers were analyzing swims and putting things into perspective. Taking the bad with the good can provide us with valuable information that helps develop our swimming character. The commitment of the swimmers and parents in this club is...

The Dinos continued to race well. Lots more personal best were swum in the morning heats and swimmers advanced through to the finals. It can be a bit tricky figuring out your overall placing as clubs are split into two pools and results are combined when the event is complete.  It is nice having the morning sessions finish before noon. It gives the swimmers (and coaches\parents) lots of time to rest between sessions. Saturday finals started off with the 200 back followed by the 50 breast, 100 fly, 200...

JP Fiset With the UCSC troops scattered all over country for competitions this weekend there’s lots of racing action going on. The crew in Edmonton is off to a good start. We're a small team (compared to our normal representation) but there have been lots of big swims! Day 1 & 2 Diana Dunajska, Kealeigh McLeod and Aiden Norman were the sole representatives in the distance events on Thursday. Each of them raced themselves to a best time. They were happy with their results. Both Diana and Kealeigh felt they...

Twenty-five swimmers from Gold 14, Gold 15 and Varsity kicked off the December peak meet season this year by attending the Youth Cup competition at the Pan Am Pool in Toronto from December 7-9. The team travelled on Wednesday, two days before the meet, to help them acclimatize to the time change and prepare for peak performances. Training sessions were held on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning and by the end of the second session the swimmers were primed and ready to go. Once the meet got underway the group...

The Cochrane IM Distance Challenge Meet was another great meet for our Dinos as our 2018 season comes to a close. This meet was a great opportunity for some of our younger Dinos to try out events that they may have never done before, such as 200 breast and 200 back. TREX rose to the challenge and swam almost 100% best times! This just goes to show that hard work in training pays off! Santa also came and visited the swimmers at the Saturday afternoon session which was a lot...
