Overcast with just a bit of wind, Sunday April 14th was the perfect day for a run. The Black 12 squad spent their morning in the Eau Claire area, competing in a 5km charity run to raise awareness and funds for The Doorway organization.

In the past month, the Dinos have become very familiar with The Doorway organization as Gold 14 and the TREX groups also volunteered some of their time making soup for the individuals housed there.

“The Doorway is a direct community response to young people on the street in Calgary choosing to rejoin society. There are significant gaps in what systems say they want to do to help these young people, and what they actually accomplish. In the late 80’s The Doorway was designed to address these gaps. An understanding of the differences between street culture and mainstream culture led to the development of a self-determined strategic planning process to make lasting change.” – (The Doorway website)

Black 12 brought various items from organizations wish list such as toothpaste, sunscreen, shampoo, conditioner, socks, etc. With The Doorway organization meeting their fundraising goal for the event, they were quite happy to also receive the items donated from some of the swimmers.

In other highlights, Sasha Adamova and Riley Long ended the event in one of the Top Finishers spots and Coach Caitlin competed in her first ever 5km run. A pat on the back to this small, but mighty group of Dinos!
