The Dino’s took 37 swimmers to Edmonton to compete in the Western Canadian Championships. The team was represented by athletes from Gold 14 right up to Varsity. The meet competition turned into a battle of Alberta with Keyano, Cascade and UCSC. We had a tremendous weekend of racing with many great individual swims. In the end the team placed third and we collected 15 individual medals and four relay medals. The athletes also raced their way to seven new club records.

Gemma Norman - 100Bk: 1:05.48 LC

Kamryn Leslie - 100Bk: 1:06.03 LC and 200Bk: 2:20.30 LC

Kimberly Song - 50Br: 33.67 LC

Kamryn Cannings - 50Fly: 28.78 LC and 100Fly: 1:04.62 LC

Kameron Brill - 50Br: 29.70 LC

There were also selections made for other teams from performances at the meet. We had two athletes qualify for Western Canada Games taking place in Swift Current this July. Congratulations to Ryenne Katterhagen and Quinnlan Bymoen for being selected for this opportunity!  Liam Dennett was also selected to the Canadian relay camp. For the camp Liam will be travelling to Vancouver to train with the selected group for the week leading up to the Mel Zajac meet. He will then be competing as part of that team. Because of Liam’s selection Coach Carl Simonson was also selected as a coach for this team.

UCSC continues to qualify large numbers of athletes for Provincial and National competitions with our representations growing every year. We look forward to Westerns next year in Victoria with an even larger group and to Canadian Junior Championships here in Calgary this July to continue to make our presence felt. Let’s go Dinos!
