Day 4 – The final push…

As I sit on the pool deck, waiting for the pool deck to fill with swimmers, I have a few quiet moments to reflect on the previous 3 days of competition.

It’s clear that UCSC has a strong contingent of swimmers with depth across all age groups. Throughout the last three days many UCSC swimmers have advanced through to seconds swims each evening. Many first time swimmers to the meet were successful in achieving their first ever Championship final (Monica O, Andrew F, Rachel W, Rosie H, Michelle M, Karah P are some swimmers that come to mind). The veterans lead the way putting on a display of how to race hard when tired and proved to be strong leaders for our younger swimmers.

This morning was filled with many TREX’s as the UCSC swimmers took to the blocks.  The support our swimmers show to one another is unparalleled. Disappointments were taken in stride and successes celebrated across all the age groups. The experiences the swimmers will take with them not only into the summer’s competitions but into next season are invaluable.

The last night of competition always brings with it lots of excitement. Many swimmers find that extra gear to lift their performances one last time and the cheering always seems to be a bit louder. The Dinos have a 300 point lead leading into the finals this evening. The Bears will challenge all the way to the end and it should be an exciting finish the meet as these teams fight for the large team title.

You can follow the results on Meet Mobile or from Live Results on the Swim Alberta website (http://results.teamunify.com/canosc/2019_AB_Summer_Champs/).

Whether this is your last meet of the season or you are competing at Western Finale, CJC or Senior Nationals, have a relaxing and sunny summer. Let those batteries recharge as the fun begins again in September with new goals and experiences up for the taking.

This is Coach Jeff signing off one last time from the Alberta Swimming Championships in Edmonton.

Have a great summer!
