Jason Brockman Head Coach - T1, T1A, T2 & Grassroots
Jason is returning for his fifth season as head coach for the 2022.23 season.
Steven Vander Meulen Head Assistant Coach- T3 & T4

This is Steven's 1st year as the Head Assistant Coach, 14th year as a Kokanee, and 47th year in the sport of swimming.

Steven Vander Meulen began swimming at age 6 with the Vernon Kokanee Swim Club and retired from international competitive swimming at age 27.  After completing his swimming career, Steven focused on coaching and has completed the NCCP Level 4 International Coaching Certification, NCI-Calgary High Performance Coaching Diploma, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology.  Steven has seen examples of his success as a swim coach through the competitive accomplishments of his swimmers who have gone on to compete in the Olympics, World Championships, Pan Pacific Championships, Paralympics and many other International competitions.

As a swimmer, Steven competed for 21 years and swam for Canada at the 1988 Olympics in the 4x100 Freestyle relay, finishing in 9th place.  Steven is also a former World Record holder in the 4x100 Medley relay with the University of Calgary Swim Club – a record which stood as a World Record for six years.  After traveling the world with Team Canada competing at such events as the World Championships, Pan Pacific Championships, Pan American Games, World Cup Circuits, Commonwealth Games, Universiade and many others, Steven retired to take up swim coaching.  With 44 Senior National gold medals in relays and individual swims, a silver medal at the Pan AM Games, a silver and a bronze at the Commonwealth Games Steven wants to share his world-class experiences and expertise with the swimmers in the Vernon Kokanees. 

Morgan Mardiros Assistant Coach - Tier 6 & Grassroots

Morgan is back for her third season coaching with VKSC and this season will be with Grassroots and Tier 4 groups.  She is currently studying post-secondary.  Morgan was a VKSC swimmer from a very young girl through to high school graduation, achieving provincial time standards.

Sam Mallow Jr Coach - Tier 6

Sam is in his last year of highschool and 1st year of coaching. Sam has been a part of the swim club since he was 6yrs old and hopes to continue being apart of the swim club into post secondary.  

Kerry Miles Head Grassroots 1 & 2 Coach

 

Kerry began competitive swimming when she was twelve and continued to swim until her 4th year of varsity eligibility. During that time, she helped her relay team break the Canadian Record in the 4 x 50 medley relay. Kerry took part in Olympic Trials, Summer Games and ranked top ten, including first, in Canada in various events in varying age groups. 

Kerry is a fully certified level 2 competitive swim coach and has been teaching swimming for twenty-seven years. Kerry started her coaching career with Cascade and coached the Jr. Olympic Way and Olympic Way program for two seasons. Kerry then ventured to summer swimming and became the head coach for the Nanton Marlin's swim team. Soon after, Kerry moved to Canmore while completing her teaching degree and became the head coach for the Canmore Coho Swim team for two seasons. Kerry then joined the Bow Valley Riptides where she was the assistant coach and then head coach.It was during this time that she had the opportunity to coach Will Brothers and watch him break the Alberta Age group Record in the 800m Freestyle. 

After graduating from the University of Calgary Masters Of Teaching Program with a joint degree in Kinesiology and Pedagogy, Kerry travelled to New Zealand where she continued coaching for a local club in the city of Gisborne called the Comet Swim Team. Kerry mainly coached age group swimmers but had the opportunity to co-coach the national squad; she was honoured to Coach Laura Quilter who was a member of the 2014 New Zealand Commonwealth Games Team. While living in New Zealand Kerry also taught grade seven, eight and nine- Health, English and Physical Education for one year.  Kerry then returned to Canada in the spring of 2011 after breaking and dislocating her left ankle which resulted in having seven ankle surgeries over five years.  Due to her severe injury, she was unable to maintain employment in her field until she was hired on as the Head Assistant Coach of the Glencoe Gators.

Kerry coached full time for the Gators from 2014-2019.

In addition to swimming, Kerry has coached volleyball, soccer and snowboarding and enjoy's teaching Physical Education. 

Tima Coad Grassroots 1 coach

Hi I’m Coach Tima. I love everything in the water from surfing to swimming to scuba diving. I’ve taught learn to swim programs for 15 years as well as instructor development. I am always learning and I’m loving coaching in the club environment. My favourite stroke is freestyle. My favourite stroke to teach is breaststroke.

Brad Kiggins Grassroots 1 coach

Brad Kiggins has over 30 years of swim instruction as a coach and swim instructor. 

He was a head coach of a swim team for over 10 years in California.  The team size was 180 swimmers aged 4 to 18 years olds.  Brad started swimming back when he was 6 years old and played water polo in high school and college. 

Brad loves the water so much that he expanded his water experiences by being a Windsurfing Instructor, PADI SCUBA Instructor, and now is a volunteer for the Vernon Search and Rescue Team as the lead on the Swiftwater and Boat Water Rescue teams.  He also has a Canadian Red Cross EMR certification. 

He is looking forward to improving every swimmers' abilities and to push them while making sure they are having fun.  He is excited to now join the Kokanee Swim Team coaching staff.
