Swim Programs

Whitby offers Pre-Competitive and Competitive programs.

Precompetitive registration will not open on March 25.  Registration will open once we know that pools are open.  We will post a notice on our website ahead of time.  Swimmers from the Winter 2020 program will receive an email before registration opens.  We are looking forward to getting back to swimming and hope your swimmer will join us!

Each program and requirements are outlined below:

Pre-Competitive Program

Whitby Swimming's Pre-Competitive Program is broken down into two levels, Pre-Competitive: Level 1 and Pre-Competitive:Level 2.

Pre-Competitive: Level 1 - 

  • Instructor/Swimmer ratio is 1 – 8

  • This progressive program teaches swimmers important competitive swim skills, and focuses on skill progressions: butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle, starts and turns. Swimmers learn to put together whole skill-sets, one step at a time.  Focus is on building stamina and improving technique.

  • Specifically designed for swimmers aged 6-9 who have completed Red Cross level 6 and/or have been assessed by one of our coaches for entry to the program.

  • One 45-minute class per week (8 classes per session)  

  • Pre-Comp 1: (all classes at Anne Ottenbrite Pool at Iroquois Sports Center)
    • Saturday 8:15-9:00am
    • Sunday 7:30-8:15am
    • Sunday 8:15-9:00am
    • Monday 4:45-5:30pm
    • Friday 4:00-4:45pm
    • Friday 4:45-5:30pm

Classes and time slots subject to change based upon enrollment.  A class will need four swimmers enrolled to proceed.

Session 3:

Cost is $133 for the eight week session plus a once per year Swimming Canada fee of $55

Pre-Competitive: Level 2 - Register here

  •  Instructor/Swimmer ratio is 1 – 8

  • This progressive program teaches swimmers important competitive swim skills, and focuses on skill progressions and building stamina: butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle, starts and turns. Swimmers learn to put together whole skill-sets, one step at a time.

  • Swimmers will also improve on turns, dives and learn the competitive swimming rules.

  • This program is geared to the swimmers’ progression to the Whitby Swimming competitive Intro group.

  • Specifically designed for the more advanced pre competitive swimmer who is 6-10 yrs-old, completed Red Cross level 6 and/or have been assessed by one of our coaches for entry to the program. Swimmers must demonstrate basic breaststroke and butterfly technique and be proficient in freestyle and backstroke.

  • Two 45 minute classes per week (16 classes per session).   Classes will start the week of September 23.  The mini meet will be November 27.

Competitive Program - Register Here

  • Swimmers pursue swimming excellence with a focus on technique, fitness and love of the sport.

  • Competitive programs are wide-ranging from entry-level to national level.  

  • Our competitive levels are structured in an effort to follow Swimming Canada’s “Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD).  

  • Our goal is to develop technique and endurance in all competitive events for their age group.

COMPETITIVE SWIM PROGRAM LEVELS

  • To ensure consistency in coaching, goal setting and training schedules, group assignments at the time of registration will remain for the entire season.

  • Attaining the criteria below does not guarantee group placement. The coaching staff and the Board reserve the right to place swimmers in groups based on overall skill level, competitive experience, maturity, readiness for the next level, training intensity and size of groups.

GROUP STRUCTURE

Elite

  • Swimmers aged 15 and over at the winter championships

  • Selected swimmers who demonstrate the ability to train with a goal to perform at peak meets (CR A, Ontario Youth Junior Championships, Ontario Swimming Championships and/or Nationals)

  • Must sign and respect a contract (also signed by the coach and the parents) stating the expectations (commitment, meets, attendance, etc.).

Junior Elite

  • Swimmers aged 12-14 at the winter championships

  • Selected swimmers who demonstrate the ability to train with a goal to perform at peak meets (CR A, Festivals, Ontario Youth Juniors)

  • Must sign and respect a contract (also signed by the coach and the parents) stating the expectations (commitment, meets, attendance, etc.)

SENIOR 

  • Swimmers aged 14 and over at the winter championships

  • Selected swimmers who demonstrate the ability to train with a goal to perform at peak meets (CR B, CR C) 

Top Age Group A

  • Swimmers aged 12-13 at the Winter Championships

  • Selected swimmers who demonstrate the ability to train with a goal to perform at peak meets (CR B, CR A, Festivals)

Top Age Group B

  • Swimmers ages 12-14 at the winter championships

  • Selected swimmers who demonstrate the ability to train with a goal to perform at peak meets (invitational and regional meets)

Junior Age Group A

  • Swimmers aged 9-11 at the winter championships

  • Swimmers will compete at invitational, regional and Festival meets

Junior Age Group B

  • Swimmers aged 9-11 at the winter championships

  • Swimmers will compete at invitational and regional meets

Intro

  • Swimmers aged 11 and under
  • swimmers will compete at local invitational meets

Varsity

  • Engaged in a competitive varsity program during the season
  • Must meet the requirements of Elite
  • Must represent Whitby Swimming at Provincial and National level meets
  • Training with Whitby Swimming for more than 10% of the year

Affiliated

  • Engaged in a supported competitive program
  • Must meet the requirements of Elite
  • Must represent Whitby Swimming at Provincial and National level meets
  • Training with Whitby Swimming for less than 10% of the year

 

MASTERS

The masters program is for swimmers aged 18 and older.  Fees are $60 per month plus a once per season Swimming Canada registration of $55.  There are four practices offered per week:  Monday, Tuesday, Friday mornings (5:15-7:00am) at Anne Ottenbrite Pool (Iroquois) and Thursday morning (5:15-7:00am) at Toronto Pan Am Sports Center (50m pool).  Members attend as many practices per week as they choose.  Competitions are optional.
