WSC: Wayland Swim Club here offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of WSC here to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Non-competitive/fitness Team

The primary goal of this group is designed for swimmers who wish to continue to maintain their swim skills and become more athletic. Swimmers in this program will be:

1) Non-competitive (do not wish to compete) or

2) pre-competitive (have ability to move into the LMR development programs when they have mastered certain swimming skills).

The program will provide athleticism and fitness of the participants, as well as their knowledge of the four competitive swimming strokes. This team trains twice to four times a week based on choice.

Prerequisites:

  • Age – 8 and up
  • Completion of Red Cross level 10 (progression upon graduation from Wayland Sports Swim Lesson Program) 

 

Youth Competitive team

The primary goal of this group is designed for swimmers who are interested in continuing to swim and introduction to racing. Swimmers in this program will be pre-competitive (have ability to move into the LMR development programs when they have mastered certain swimming skills), developing the base competitive skills needed to attain the PASS graduation requirements and aiming to compete in local regional meets. The program will provide a well-rounded IM and Free based training that will be supplemented by a physical literacy, stroke and strength program. The focus of the group is to continue the process of physiological and technical training, understanding proper development in all four strokes in their training practices. This team trains 3 to 4 times a week. 

Prerequisites:

  • Age – 11 and up
  • Completion of Red Cross level 10 (progression upon graduation from Wayland Sports Swim Lesson Program)
  • Do not wish to flow into regional development team and/or do no meet the requirements

 

P.A.S.S. Development team 2

The primary goal of this program is designed for developing swimmers who are pursuing commitment towards competitive swimming. Swimmers in this program will be developing the base competitive skills needed to attain the PASS graduation requirements. The program will provide a well-rounded IM and Free based training that will be supplemented by a physical literacy, stroke and strength program. The focus of the group is to continue the process of physiological and technical training, understanding proper development in all four strokes in their training practices. This team trains 3 times a week. 

Prerequisites:

  • Age – 12 & under 
  • Performance level –assessed by club director
    • Be water safe
    • Swim 15 metres of proper backstroke
    • Swim 15 metres of proper front crawl
    • Minimum Red Cross level 3 or 4 in equivalence. 

 

P.A.S.S. Development team 1

The primary goal of this program is designed for developing swimmers who are pursuing commitment towards competitive swimming. Swimmers in this program will be developing the base competitive skills needed to attain the PASS graduation requirements and move into the regional meet program. The program will provide a well-rounded IM and Free based training that will be supplemented by a physical literacy and strength program. The focus of the group is to continue the process of physiological and technical training, understanding proper development in all four strokes in their training practices. Swimmers in this group will have a different set of entry-level skills than swimmers entering PASS 2. The skill level will determine the level of meet performance. This team trains 3 times a week.

Prerequisites:

  • Age – 12 & under 
  • Performance level – minimum requirement of swimming a legal 100 IM and dive off starting blocks.
  • team placement upon approval of team management
 

LMR Development Team 2

The primary goal of this program is designed for developing swimmers who are pursuing commitment towards competitive swimming. Swimmers in this program will be working towards completion of P.A.S.S meet 200 IM of 4:00 and 400 Free of 5:40. The program will provide a well rounded 200 IM and 400 Free based training that will be supplemented by a physical literacy and strength program. The focus of the group is to continue the process of physiological and technical training, understanding proper development in all four strokes in their training practices. This team trains 4 times a week.

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age of 6 and a half and good development in all 4 strokes
  • Capable of swimming a legal 100 IM and dive off starting blocks.
  • team placement upon approval of team management

 

LMR Development team 1

This level of our program is designed for developing swimmers who are pursuing swimming and academic excellence. Swimmers in this program will be working towards completion of P.A.S.S meet 200 IM of 4:00 and 400 Free of 5:40 and towards BC A times at the Regional level. The program will provide a well rounded 200 IM and 400 Free based training that will be supplemented by a physical literacy and strength program. The focus of the group is to continue the process of physiological and technical training, understanding proper development in all four strokes in their training drills. This team trains 4 times a week.

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age of 6 and a half and strong development in all 4 strokes
  • 4:10 or better 200 IM & 5:50 or better 300 Free
  • team placement upon approval of team management
 

Competitive Development 2 - Junior team

This level of our program is designed for developing swimmers who are pursuing swimming and academic excellence. Swimmers in this program will be targeting BC A/AA/AAA. The focus of the group is to continue the process of physiological and technical training, with exposure to multiple levels of competition. Training will supplement a comprehensive dryland program. This team trains 5 times a week.

Prerequisites:

  • 8 years old and up
  • 3:55 or better 200 IM & 6:50 or better 400 Free
  • Minimum Swim BC A level requirement and approval of swim management
  • Swimmers ranked 31-44 in total cumulative time of 100 Free/Back/Breast/Fly/200 IM/400 Free
  • 75% attendance of all scheduled practices is required to compete. Failure to meet this group requirement will result in a re-evaluation of the swimmer’s position in the program by the coach and Director.
  • 75% cumulative practice attendance to attend invitational, provincial or national meets.
  • 60% cumulative practice attendance to attend regional meets
  • Swimmers are required to attend all provincial/national competitions for which they qualify. 

 

 Competitive Development 2 - Senior team

This level of our program is designed for developing swimmers who are pursuing swimming and academic excellence. Swimmers in this program will be targeting BC AA/AAA. The focus of the group is to continue the process of physiological and technical training, with exposure to multiple levels of competition. Training will supplement a comprehensive dryland program. This team trains 5+ times a week.

Prerequisites:

  • 10 years old and up
  • Minimum Swim BC A level requirement and approval of director
  • Swimmers ranked 31-44 in total cumulative time of 100 Free/Back/Breast/Fly/200 IM/400 Free
  • 75% attendance of all scheduled practices is required to compete. Failure to meet this group requirement will result in a re-evaluation of the swimmer’s position in the program by the coach and Director.
  • 75% cumulative practice attendance to attend invitational, provincial or national meets.
  • 60% cumulative practice attendance to attend regional meets
  • Swimmers are required to attend all provincial/national competitions for which they qualify. 

 

Competitive Development 1 team

This level of our program is designed for developing swimmers who are pursuing swimming and academic excellence. Swimmers in this program will be targeting BC AA/AAA; Western Championships, Canadian Junior and Senior championships. The focus of the group is to continue the process of physiological and technical training, with exposure to multiple levels of competition. Training will supplement a comprehensive dryland program. This team training 5+ times a week.

Prerequisites:

  • 12 years old and up
  • Minimum Swim BC A level requirement and approval of director
  • Swimmers ranked 16-30 in total cumulative time of 100 Free/Back/Breast/Fly/200 IM/400 Free
  • 75% attendance of all scheduled practices is required to compete. Failure to meet this group requirement will result in a re-evaluation of the swimmer’s position in the program by the Senior coach and Director.
  • 75% cumulative practice attendance to attend invitational, provincial or national meets.
  • 60% cumulative practice attendance to attend regional meets
  • Swimmers are required to attend all provincial/national competitions for which they qualify. 

 

Provincial Team Program

This level of our program is designed for provincial-level swimmers who are pursuing swimming and academic excellence. Swimmers in this program will be targeting BC AA/AAA; Western Championships, Canadian Junior and Senior championships. The focus of the group is to continue the process of physiological and technical training, with exposure to multiple levels of competition. Training will supplement a comprehensive dryland program. This team training 6+ times a week. 

 

Prerequisites:

  • 12 years old and up
  • Minimum Swim BC A level requirement & placement decision made by head coach
  • Top 15 in total cumulative time of 100 Free/Back/Breast/Fly/200 IM/400 Free
  • 80% attendance of all scheduled practices is required to compete. Failure to meet this group requirement will result in a re-evaluation of the swimmer’s position in the program by the management team.
  • Swimmers are required to attend all provincial/national competitions for which they qualify. 

 

Senior Provincial & National Team Program

This level of our program is designed for provincial-level swimmers who are pursuing swimming and academic excellence. Swimmers in this program will be targeting BC AA/AAA; Western Championships, Canadian Junior and Senior championships. The focus of the group is to continue the process of physiological and technical training, with exposure to multiple levels of competition. Training will supplement a comprehensive dryland program. This team training 6+ times a week. 

 

Prerequisites:

  • 12 years old and up
  • Minimum Swim BC AAA level requirement & placement decision made by head coach
  • Top 15 in total cumulative time of 100 Free/Back/Breast/Fly/200 IM/400 Free
  • 90% attendance of all scheduled practices is required to compete. Failure to meet this group requirement will result in a re-evaluation of the swimmer’s position in the program by the management team.
  • Swimmers are required to attend all provincial/national competitions for which they qualify.
