TRA Mid-Winter Invite Wrap Up

TRA hosted the Mid-Winter Invite at UNLV January 20-22. Over 550 athletes from three states competed over three days, and had a fabulous time. Our amazing parents stepped up to make the meet a huge success and everyone is looking forward to returning to Vegas to swim with us again.
We had many great swims and best times, and several swimmers tried events they had never swum before. We also had two swimmers (Ethan Garza and William Deng) swimming in their first meet ever!
Friday night started with Michelle Stana swimming her first 500 freestyle, finishing third overall in the 11-12 girls event with a time of 6:15.56.
Other great swims from the Friday night distance session included Troy Valldovinos in the 1000 free, finishing third in 9:58.03, a 15 second improvement over his seed time and Alec Rodriguez who was fourth at 10:32.77, dropping over 21 seconds from his seed time.
Saturday morning saw more great swims from our 12 and under swimmers.
Our 8 and under boys swept the top 4 places in the 25 breaststroke, led by Tucker McCullough (23.68), followed by Harrison Andrada at 27.00, Jace Clarke at 27.10 and Heath Turk at 27.54. Best times for all four boys!
Tucker McCullough also won the 25 freestyle in 18.50 with Heath Turk second and Jace Clarke fourth.
Heath Turk won the 5-8 50 backstroke by nearly 8 seconds, finishing in 41.95 and improving his seed time by over 2 seconds.
Harrison Andrada won the 5-8 50 butterfly in 1:09.35, an 8 second improvement on his seed time.
Jace Clarke swam the 100 free for the first time, finishing second in the 5-8 age group at 1:38.61.
Logan Turk was third in the 7-10 200 freestyle at 2:35.26, an improvement of over 8 seconds. He also took a second off of his 100 IM time and finished 4th in the 50 freestyle.
Vianney Montoya took 16 seconds off of her 50 breaststroke and 5 seconds off of her 50 freestyle.
Daniel Nolan dropped over 6 seconds off of his 50 freestyle.
Mila Brown took over 15 seconds off of her 50 freestyle.
Issac Ko finished 5th in the 11-12 50 breaststroke with a 3.5 second drop to 39.72. He also swam his first 100 IM, finishing 11th overall at 1:21.79.
Leila Brown had 4 strong swims, taking 6 seconds off of her 50 breaststroke time, over 14 seconds off of her 100 backstroke time, 3 seconds off of her 50 free time, and swam her first ever 100 IM in 1:26.68.
Arlene Mikaelian had best times in the 50 free, 50 back and 100 IM.
In the afternoon session the big kids also had many great swims.
Daniel Barlow dropped over 7 seconds from his 200 freestyle, 3 seconds from his 100 breast, a second off his 100 free, and 2 seconds from his 100 backstroke.
Julian Gauclain improved his 400 IM time by 4 seconds and 200 fly time by 7 seconds.
Stephanie Mills took over 6 seconds off of her 400 IM.
