Desert Championships - Day One

Team Rebel Aquatics had a great weekend at our conference meet this past weekend, mostly led by our powerhouse of 10 and under boys and 13-14 boys!

Finals kicked off with the 10 and under 200 freestyle relay, and our A team of Asher Howard, Tucker McCullough, Cooper McCullough and Shoma Kono combined for a time of 2:21.31 and 4th place. Our B team, Heath Turk, Jace Clarke, Christian Mills and Harrison Andrada came in 6th place with a time of 3:05.62.

Our 13-14 boys followed that up with a 3rd place showing in the 200 free relay, with Toby Esposito, Julian Gauclain, Thais Tokay and Yushi Kono posting a time of 1:39.13.

We had three boys make it into the championship final in the 10 & under 100 breaststroke, Asher Howard was second with a lifetime best of 1:25.60, followed by Shoma Kono in 3rd with a 1:26.82. Cooper McCullough rounded out the top 8 with a time of 1:39.87.

We also had three boys in the championship final in the 13-14 100 breaststroke! Arris Tokay ended up second with a 1:06.13, while his brother Thais was 5th at 1:07.22. Julian Gauclain was 8th at 1:08.75.

Jordan Clarke was 4th in the Open 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.02.

In the backstroke, Ryder McCullough was 6th in the 11-12 50 backstroke. Toby Esposito was 4th in the 11-14 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.07, and Nicholas Diaconescu was 7th with a time of 2:13.47. Charlotte Berndt was 4th in the girls Open 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.97 and Elijah Wyett placed 5th in the boys Open 200 backstroke with a time of 2:00.49.

In the 100 freestyle, Cooper McCullough and Shoma Kono made the championship final for the 10 and unders, Cooper was 7th at 1:16.02 and Shoma was 8th at 1:16.80.

Asher Howard was 5th in the 10 & under 100 IM at 1:19.47, while Ryder McCullough was 8th in the 11-12 100 IM at 1:17.55.

Day one wrapped up with the 1650 freestyle. Momo Utsumi was second in the 15 and over mile, with a time of 17:47.87 and Julian Gauclain was 6th in the 11-14 boys 1650, dropping an impressive 36 seconds off his previous best time to go 17:56.97.
