Cross Country Season

Chicago Flyers Team-Kids 10-15 years. (If you have an experienced and mature 9 year old, send an email to discuss.)

Kids 7-9 years? See Little Flyers info below.

Location

  1. West Team-Westmont/Hinsdale/Downers Grove area.

Two Seasons

  1. Full Season is August 30-November 21. 
  2. Short Season is all Sundays, and week day practices after school XC season ends. Club soccer players will be considered for the short season if they attend a minimum of 1 practice per week.

Westmont Area

XC Full Season Training, 3 days = T/TH, 4:30-6:15 PM, Westmont area and Sunday, 4-6 PM  $710  plus $40 annual fee = $750.  (71+ hours of coaching)

XC Short Season-All Sunday Practices, 4-6 PM and starting October 11th, T/TH, 4:30-6:15 PM @ Westmont area $500 plus $40 fee = $550  (50+ hours of coaching)

Little Flyers Full Season Only- 8-9 year olds. Tuesday and Thursday 4:30-5:30 PM, Sunday 4-6 PM $480 plus $40 annual fee = $520. (48+ hours of coaching) They must love to run. Practices are appropriate for LTAD (long term athletic development).

A multi-athlete discount is available for the 3rd member, $50, and 4th member, $100 for the season. Applied during registration.

 

Registration Tips:

 

We use an excellent system to manage our team. You may find it challenging at first, but eventually, it will make all of our lives more efficient.

When you register, you will need to select your season based on the child's age and season length preference and location.

Purchase team shirt at registration if you don't have one. 

Requirements to run XC-

Athlete:

  1. Keep shoes tied.  Bring all team gear to every practice.
  2. Full Season - be able at the first August practice  to run 5 minutes without stopping (fast and technically correct not important) and a desire to improve.
  3. Short Season by October 11th be able to run age group race distance at practice, 12 and under -3k, 13 and over 4k.
  4. Follow the team rules for safety.
  5. Be on time for practices.

Parents:

  1. Volunteer 4 hours per household.
  2. Attend a parent zoom call or meeting.
  3. Access the team website on a browser for complete information versus only using the app.
  4. Accept or Decline attendance for all meets.

  • October 2 Belvidere Tornados
  • October 23  Elgin Sharks (CCCNYC Qualifier)
  • November 6 Rockford Wildcats
  • November 13  AAU State Meet (CCCNYC Qualifier)
  • November 20 Cross Country Coaches National Youth Championship, Paris, KY.

Athletes only run in one event, 13-14 4k, 9-12 3k, 15-18 5k, 8 and under 2k. Families can often arrive 90 minutes prior to their event and leave immediately after thanking teammates, coaches and competitors!  Meets usually run 9-1PM, youngest to oldest. 

Practices inlcude technique, team value, speed, distance, running games, journals (XC only) stations, adventures, fun and friendships.  Within a short period of time, kids will be running 4- 6+ miles at some of the practice with all  of the activities.  We emphasize quality miles (fast and with excellent technique) over long, slow running.

The Chicago Flyers Track season offers  event specific training in the following events:  100/200/400/800/1500/3000*   No field events.  Beginner to National level competitors.  The Chicago Flyers program is for kids, 9-14 years of age, and Little Flyers is for kids, 6-8 years of age.  The Flyers program is based on the most current training methodology while utilizing a character-based program to create athletes with a passion for a life time of running.  The curriculum is actually developed by coaches who are certified in many methods of enhancing your child's performance, actual professionals with  an education for age-appropriate training.  Meets are optional but recommended to provide the athlete with a purpose for the many hours of training. 

While we have successfully continued to train athletes during the pandemic, high school sports and park district programs are prioritizing facilities and so locations may change.  We are committed to the dates of training and may add an additional Sunday run and more meets.  We are doing our best to secure track time.

If you are new to the program and did not compete in the 2020 Cross Country season or train during Winter Running Club, you will need to pay the annual fee which covers a 2020 AAU membership  and administrative costs.

If your child does not have a  Flyers' t-shirt, please order one. If your child is going to compete, they will need the t-shirt. 

If your child participated in the Chicago Flyers Oak Brook Spring Clinic, you will receive a $30 refund if you enroll by April 1.

Meet entry fees will be billed at time of registration when you decide to register your athlete. (We will have a team meeting in early May to discuss.)

Training hours are listed by each option and do not include time spent at meets or forest preserve fun runs.  It is an investment in your athlete.  We offer partial scholarships for those requiring assistance.  Cost should never prevent an athlete from becoming a Flyer.

West Program- Practice Location will be from La Grange to Downers Grove.

5.  One Day a Week   A-JL   $230

Full season, one day a week.  Ability to compete in meets.  Please contact Coach Michelle prior to registration for approval.  Since the week has speed days and strength days, it is important to attend on a day that is beneficial for your athlete.  Competitive Soccer and swimming athletes are a good fit for this program.  Less aerobically trained should participate in a full program to experience success.

Little Flyers, 6-8 year olds (as of May 10th)   Registration will open by April 10th.

2022 Seasons-

January/February

Winter Running Club. For the experienced mid and distance runner.  Must be able to run easily with a smile, 10 minutes without stopping, at the first practice.  75 minutes, 3 x week. Kids 11-14.   Western Springs Area.

Orland Park Soccer Club Track Clinic-Introduction to Track. Registration is through the OP Soccer Club. Orland Park.

March

Spring Track Clinic.  March 7, 14, 21 2-4 PM Introduction to the Chicago Flyers Track Club and prepare for track season. No experience required. For kids 9-14.  $100.  Technique, Sprints/Distance, Drills, Race Prep, Speed, Fun. Oak Brook Park District, 1450 Forest Gate Rd. Oak Brook.
