Swim Lesson Curriculum
The outline below describes each level and the qualifications within that level that are necessary for graduation to the next level. Final lesson placements are subject to either a manager's or instructor's discretion, as we want to ensure each child within our program is going to be successful each step of the way in our learn-to-swim program. Level 1 |
CURRICULUM |
- Gradual Water adaptation (sitting, standing, submerging in water)
- Movement in water (body position, forward & backward)
- Breathing hold and release (breathing in, pausing, then blowing out)
- Face and eyes open underwater
- Blowing bubbles using the nose and mouth submerged
- 10 bobs with air exchange and bubbles (full submersion)
- Unassisted front floats (5 seconds)
- Unassisted back floats (5 seconds)
- Front glides with recovery (5 seconds)
- Back glides with recovery (5 seconds)
- Enters and exits the water safely using steps, ladder, or side
- Jumps into the water and returns to the wall independently
- Introduction to flutter kick

Level 2 |
CURRICULUM |
- Kick T’s (5 yards)
- Front glide with flutter kick (5 yards)
- Back glide with flutter kick (5 yards)
- Rolling from front to back and back to front while floating
- Proper flutter kick (straight legs, pointed toes)
- Treading water (30 seconds)
- Jump in, float position, and independent kick return

Level 3 |

- Front Streamline (kicks, glides, and push-offs)

- Side breathing (air exchange with bubbles underwater)
- Side stroke 5 yards
- Kick 5 yards using side glide kicking
- Elementary Backstroke (pencil, chicken, airplane – 5 yards)
- Backstroke (5 yards or 8 arm strokes with a good kick)

Level 4 |

- Backstroke (25 yards good body position, straight arms, & kick)
- Freestyle (good arms, side breathing for 5 yards or 8 strokes)
- Treading water (1 minute)
- Dolphin kick introduction
- Underwater streamline push-offs with flutter kick
- Underwater streamline push-offs with dolphin kick
- Sitting dive
- Kneeling dive

- Breaststroke kick (10 yards with proper technique)
- Butterfly (5 yards with good kick and arms or 4 strokes)
