Our CMA 12-Under State Swimmers Have Record Setting Performances!

Ten CMA swimmers and their families made the gorgeous mountain trek to Grand Junction for the Colorado LC Age Group State Championships!  We had a tremendous meet, finishing with three State Champion wins, setting twelve new CMA team records, and finishing in 15th place - up from last summer's LC finish of 17th!

Samantha Synsvoll (12) scored 205 points, finishing as Colorado State Champion in three events - 100 back, 200 back, and 400 IM!!!  She set four new CMA team records - 200 back, 200 breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM!  She also finished second in three events - 200 IM, 200 free, and 200 breast and finished 5th in 100 free.  It was an exciting and gutsy meet for her and we wish her all the best as she continues on to the Western Zone Championships in Oregon next week, as a member of Team Colorado!!!

Elam Estella (11) scored 162 points, set seven new CMA team records - every single event he swam (!), and qualified for Zones in the 400 IM!!!  He finished 6th in each 50 fly, 200 fly, 200 IM, and 200 breast; 7th in 100 free and 400 IM; and 9th in 100 fly (5th fastest time, but did it in the B heat, unfortunately!).  It was an awesome meet for Elam and we can't wait to see what he'll do at his next two state meets, as a 12 year old!

Kellen McInelly (10) scored 49 points, finishing 6th in both the 50 fly and 100 fly, while dropping nearly 3 seconds in the 100!  He also swam 200 IM, 50 and 100 back, and 100 and 200 free.  We wish him well as we sadly send him off to his new swimming career in Washington State, where his family is moving this month.  Kellen - you will always be a member of our CMA family!

Lizzie Platt (10), who has been swimming for less than a year(!), scored 33 points, finishing 9th in the 50 breast, with a 4 second time drop, and 14th in the 100 breast, with a 3 second time drop!  She also swam 200 IM, 200 free, 50 and 100 back, and 50 fly - ALL of which were best times!  Lizzie's enthusiasm knows no bounds and we're so excited to see what she'll be able to accomplish in the next year now that she's a full-time Junior swimmer!

Kytelyn Pieper (12) scored 26 points finishing 12th in the 200 breast, with an 8 second time drop, and made finals and finished 21st in the 100 breast!  She also swam 50 breast, 200 back, 200 IM, and 400 IM, dropping 12 seconds in her 400 IM!  The longer the event, the more this girl loves to swim it!

Zoe Harris (9), as our youngest state team member, scored 11 points and dropped an amazing 15 seconds in her 200 IM to finish in 20th place!  Wowza!  She also dropped time in her 50 breast and 100 back and swam the 50 back, 100 breast, and 100 and 200 free.  With two more state meets to go as a 10 and under, it will be so exciting to continue to watch her grow and develop as a swimmer!

Kayla Bentley (11) dropped a half second in her 50 back and also swam the 100 back and 100 fly.  She was such a great cheerleader and helper at the meet and we can't wait to see how she undertakes her new role as one of the new Junior leaders in the next year!

Monique Ardines (11) swam best times in both her individual 50 breast and her 50 free split in the relay!  After she qualified at the last minute for the meet, her family made the long trek to Grand Junction only to get stuck on the road for hours and hours after a mudslide shut down the highway!  Thank you Monique and the Ardines family for going to such great lengths to get her to the 7:00 am warmup!  Talk about perseverance!

Sophia Mezei (11) - If it isn't hard enough to age up shortly before the state meet, it is certainly hard to come back from having a broken wrist in a cast for 6 weeks! Sophia had previously qualified to swim 50 and 100 fly and 50, 100, and 200 free, which was quite impressive having just turned 11 in June.  She swam those events and also was a valued member of both the medley and free relays.  We hope February will be luckier for her as she competes at the next state championships!

Eler Huang (10) was our lone AG Gold swimmer to qualify for state and he qualified in four events! He swam 50 fly, 100 fly, 50 breast, and 50 back - dropping 8 seconds in 100 fly, 1.5 seconds in 50 back, and a half second in 50 breast.  For a young, brand new swimmer to the state meet, Eler handled himself with class, poise, and confidence and he is sure to continue on to many more championship meets in the future!

Our girls 12 & under 200 medley relay team of SamanthaKytelynKayla, and Sophia dropped time and finished 16th and our 200 free relay team of SamanthaSophiaMonique, and Kytelyn also dropped time and finished 16th!

The State Championships was once again an amazingly successful meet for us and we are SO proud of all of our swimmers! Congratulations to all of our proud swimmers and Coach Kristen!
