Welcome Back to all our returning members, and a big Hello to any new members joining our ‘Bear family’ for the first time.  We have an exciting Season ahead, lots of swimming, lots of fun and lots of ways to get involved and participate!

Our Swimmers achieved some great results last season.  Nationally, EKSC placed 1st overall at Western Championships, 2nd overall in the Canadian Junior Championships, and 3rd overall in the Canadian Senior Championships. We had many medals and acheivements at Provincials and Alberta Championships. Our Bears who attended the Western Canada Summer Games swam amazingly well with numerous medals being won. Our littlest Bears were introduced to Wednesday Race Nights, where they learned some of those early competitions skills in a less stressful environment. And finally, Emma O’Croinin represented Canada and won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Gwangju, Korea and bronze and silver medals in the World Junior Championships in Budapest, Hungary!  Well done to all our athletes, coaches and of course, our parents cheering from the stands.

We look forward to building on last season and continuing to excel in and out of the pool. The deveopement program has been redesigned and will include curriculum and skill progression following the new Coaching Manuals that Head Coach Paul developed over the past year. There are many incentives and rewards built into the program to make learing fun and rewarding for the swimmers and will help to develop the Wednesday night program for the club. Wednesday nights are a great opportunity for our entire club to be together. This allows the younger swimmers to see and learn from the older swimmers and the older swimmers the chance to teach and demonstrate the outcomes of their hard work over the years. It also allows our parents from the multiple pools to meet each other, and the opportunity to provide education, officials course and information to everyone at the same time. We hope to see you at the Kinsmen o Wednesday nights!

Our Board of Directors welcomes Ian Boreyko this fall as well. Ian was appointed to the Board to fill a vacancy. Thank you to all the members who put their names forward for the position. We were overwhelmed by the response and are very happy to see so many members wanting to become involved. The various committees have also received responses from people wanting to join and help. The Board of Directors will continue to support Head Coach Paul and General Manager Chris as they work towards the common goals of the strategic plan that was developed last season to help EKSC truly become the new standard for swimming in Canada.

Stay tuned for the many chances to be involved this year. EKSC has been awarded the Canadian Swimming Championships in August 2020. This competition begins just at the finish of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. It will be an exciting time in Canadian Swimming and a great chance for all of us to showcase our club to the rest of the country. EKSC will also be hosting some of our "old" favorites such as Candy Cane Classic, Blue Bears and EKI, as well as some newer competitions such as Edmonton Open and the Swim Alberta Summer Festival. We encourage you to be involved on deck. It is much more exciting to be in the midst of the action than up in the stands!

May the 2019-2020 season be the very best one yet!

Go Bears!
