Dear Keyano Families,

I am pleased to welcome you to the 2018-2019 season, on behalf of the Edmonton Keyano Swim Club’s Board of Directors.

We are excited to welcome our new Head Coach, Paul Birmingham to Edmonton and into our Bear family. Paul will be arriving from Australia where he traveled to after completing his final competition, the Asian Games, as the Head Coach of the Malaysian National Swim Team.  Paul has a great deal of experience in coaching swimmers of all ages from learn-to-swim all the way to Olympic athletes. He is most looking forward to molding our swimmers from the beginner levels up, developing consistency and common language, and forming a strong base of technically sound swimmers who will move through the levels to compete across the country and beyond. The Search and Selection Committee has done an amazing job this past year in the hiring of Coach Paul and we are extremely grateful.  We are looking forward to showcasing our club, our swimmers, our facility and our city. Coach Paul is a little concerned about how cold it can be in Edmonton, so be sure to reassure him that he will not freeze!

We are also excited to welcome Chris Nelson into the position of General Manager. Chris has been a coach with Keyano for the past 6 years and has seen the club grow and change. Chris, with the Board of Directors, worked toward an organizational model where the General Manager will work alongside the Head Coach to provide the administrative and operational support to allow the club to further grow and develop. Chris will also be taking on the role of Head of Development Coach to provide support to the coaches in the satellite locations and help to deliver the consistency of the program.

As we enter this season, the Board of Directors will endeavour to support our Head Coach and General Manager to enable the Edmonton Keyano Swim Club to become a leader in the swimming community through competitive and operational successes.

This year, 2018 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Edmonton Keyano Swim Club. We will be hosting many of our long running competitions such as Candy Cane, Blue Bears and EKI. Swim Alberta has awarded us Spring Championships in March as well as a new Winter Festival in December for the younger swimmers. Swimming will always be a sport that needs parent involvement and we look forward to working with you on deck.

We would like to thank all  returning members for choosing Keyano and we welcome all new members to our club. We appreciate the support, volunteer hours, early morning drives and dedication you have given to ensure that Keyano is the very best swim club. The future is bright and we are humbled and happy to share this journey with each of you. See you on deck!

Go Bears!

Jill Edwards, President
