Checking In for Keyano Camps:
On each day of the week-long camp, parents should check-in with the coach on deck at 10:15am and check-out with the coach on deck at 2:30pm. After check-in, parents are free to leave the premises until check-out time. Parents who are unsure if their swimmers will pass the safety swim test shall remain on deck until the safety test is confirmed. Please note that parents are otherwise not allowed on deck during training, and may watch from the stands if they desire.
Eligibility for Keyano Camps:
Swimmers must be ready to swim 2 lengths and kick 2 lengths of the swimming pool before the camp begins. Beginner swimmers will be asked by City lifeguards to complete a 25m safety swim test; those who cannot complete the City of Edmonton safety swim test will not be allowed to continue in the camp and will be given a full refund for their camp purchase. Parents are asked to ensure their swimmer completes the safety swim test before they leave the premises.
What to bring:
All swimmers need to have an appropriate swim suit and goggles. It is encouraged to bring your own kickboard, fins and water bottle. There are some fins and kickboards at our pool locations, available on a first-come basis. Please also bring a snack (5min snack break for 10&unders during first swim) and a nutritious bagged lunch (please refrain from packing peanuts/nuts in lunches due to the potential severity and sensitivity of children with these allergies).
10&under Camp:
Swimmers will be learning drills and skills for each of the four competitive strokes. Priority is for technical development, but swimmers will certainly gain a large amount of stamina over the course of a week. Coaches are trained to watch for fatigue and tailor lessons to the focus level of each group. Each day will finish with a measurable objective, allowing swimmers who register in multiple weeks to track their improvement.
11&over camp:
Swimmers will be refining technique of their competitive swim strokes, and depending on the experience of the group will train together on one of our specially designed workout programs. Priority is for technical development under some stress of training. Each day will finish with a measurable objective, allowing swimmers who register in multiple weeks to track their improvement.
Camp Contingency:
In the unlikely event that a camp week is severely under-subscribed, Keyano reserves the right to cancel a camp with up to 7 days notice, and will issue a full refund to any swimmers signed up for such a cancellation.
