US Olympic Trials Recap

Mike Novell

Congrats to Lucy and all the FAST Alum competing at Olympic Trials these past two weeks.  There have been some amazing swims and much to be proud of.  There still is some great racing ahead so be sure and tune in for the last couple of days of racing.

Trials itself is a different meet to prepare for.  The expectations both spoken and unspoken that swimmers place on themselves can make the event unlike anything else in our sport.  Olympians frequently speak of being more nervous for the US trials than the actual games.  As a club team our presence at the meet alone is an accomplishment.  To have so many FAST Alum racing so well is truly remarkable.  It speaks to the foundation that the swimmers in our program are building as well as their intrinsic desire to master the sport of swimming.

Lucy had an great first showing at the meet.  On her very first day she raced her favorite double of the 4IM/1Fly very well and came away ready to race her next event.  Just qualifying in two events is a challenge let alone the difficulty of racing both in one session.  In her 2IM she posted a lifetime best at sea level and was able to move up in ranks.  In her 200 fly she had the opportunity to again race the top circle seeded heat as well as the eventual Trials Champion.  She did an amazing job taking in the experience and we all look forward to her bringing that excitement and energy back to our club as we head into the final 1/3 of the LCM season.  GREAT JOB!
