John Scaldini - Head Coach

Coach John grew up just over the border in Lewisboro, New York. John swam at John Jay High school and USS for the New Canaan YMCA and Boys & Girls club of Mnt. Kisco Marlins. John attended Principia College in Elsah, IL swimming for their D3 NCAA program as a Freshman and Sophomore. In 2005, John moved to Sacramento CA for four years where he was the Head Coach for a 200 swimmer Rec level team that also participated Unattached in the local USA LSC.

Shortly after getting married in 2008, John returned home to the East Coast for a brief stint coaching the Senior program for Weston Swimming. In 2009, John took over as Asst. Age Group coach & Head 8&Under Coach at the Westport YMCA. After two and a half fantastic years at the Westport YMCA John returned to Weston Swimming to take over as Head Age Group Coach and was named Head Coach in 2019.

Starting in 2012 ,John also joined the coaching staff for the CT Zone Team participating for the past 7 seasons (12 trips) and as Head Coach for 6 trips. Coach John now sits on the CTSwim Board of Directors as the CT Zone Coordinator. 

John and his Wife Denise live in Milford with their son Luca and cats Jonah & Tux.
 
 
Chris Riles - Snr&Nat Coach
 
Chris has been coaching swimming since 1973.  He formed the Weston Swim Club and also coached both the boys and girls swim teams at Weston High School.  During his tenure at Weston, Chris's teams captured 11 Boys State Championships and 7 Girls State Championships.  He was named National High School Coach of the Year in 1986 and 1991.  Chris was also Connecticut High School Coach of the Year in 1985, 1987, 1992 and 1996.  

For the past 11 years, Chris has coached both age group and senior swimmers at the New Canaan YMCA.  His age group teams have consistently placed in the top 10 at Connecticut Age Groups and were New England YMCA champions. He has coached numerous All State, All American, Junior Olympic, Senior National and Olympic Trial Qualifiers both at Weston and New Canaan.  

Chris also spent one year (1989) as the top assistant to Ernie Maglischo at Cal State Bakersfield.  Coach Maglischo is known to be the top stroke technique coach in the world.  Cal State Bakersfield won the NCAA National Championship that year.

 

Brandon Barone - Gold Coach

Brandon has been coaching swimming and water polo in Fairfield County for the past 10 years.
 
Brandon's swimming career, which began in his native Baltimore, flourished after his move to Westport at the age of seven. A former Westport YMCA Water Wrat, he has competed at the local and state levels, specializing in sprint freestyle. He also competed for the Staples High School Boys Varsity Swim and Water Polo teams in Westport, captaining the latter in his junior and senior years. Brandon went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Government in 2010 from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, competing on the varsity swim team all four years.
 
Brandon's coaching career began at his alma mater, Staples High School, where he assisted with the Girls Varsity Swim and Water Polo teams. He later became head coach of the Boys Varsity Water Polo Team at Staples. Brandon then coached swimming for the Westport Water Wrats for about two years, primarily working with the 11-12 year old squad. His role ultimately expanded to include the 9-10 year old and 8/under programs. Brandon then worked at Swim 70 in Norwalk, running their 8/under swim program and helping the team win the 2016 Short Course Age Group Championship. Brandon served as the Head Swim Coach at the Stamford YMCA. Currently, Brandon is the Head Coach of Weston High School Girls and Boys swimming teams having won four State Championships and three conference titles between the two programs over the last three years.
