In August 2015 I joined the incredible Oregon Community Swim Club Staff as the Co-Head Coach in charge of Elite Swimmers and responsible for Coaching Development.  In our first Short Course Season together, we placed 9th for 10 & unders at 12 & Under State, won 10 medals and set 51 new club records. 3 of our swimmers achieved Speedo cuts and swam in the Speedo Regional Meet. 4 other swimmers qualified for the National Elite Showcase meet in Clearwater, FL where they competed and 2 of them medaled in events.  In March of 2016 I happily accepted the Head Coach position for the TigerSharks and I eagerly anticipate more and more success for this very talented and driven group of young athletes.

Coaching Highlights

  • Davis Monthan Air Force Base – first head coach job, summer 1983
  • Eastern Hills Orcas – Tucson, AZ
    • During my 11 years with the Orcas we grew from a small summer team in the 4th, (of 5), division of the Southern Arizona Aquatic Association to a team of 180 plus and won our division championships 8 times. The last 3 of those were in the top division and we were runners up in that division the three times we did not win. At Eastern Hills I was blessed to coach Caitln Leverenz who went who went on to Olympic Bronze in London in the 400 IM, Brandi Collins who captained the University of Arizona Women's team to an NCAA national championship in the mid 2000's and is currently an Assitant Coach for the Wildcats, as well as numerous other swimmer who went on to state titles, NCAA swimming and their own coaching careers.  The Orcas continue to be coached by former swimmers of mine 15 years later.
  • Sahuaro High School – Tucson, AZ (my alma mater)
    • I was lucky to coach 3 state champions during this time, including Julie Osinsky who won back to back 500 free state titles. Julie's club coach was Doug Northway who had medaled at the Olympics after his junior year at Sahuaro High School and I learned a ton from both Julie and Doug. We also had 6 runner ups and numerous medalists during this time.
  • Waunakee High School – Waunakee, WI
    • I focused on re-building the high school program into a competitive force and also founded the Waunakee Orcas summer team. My assistant coaches successfully turned the Orcas into a USA Swimming club and Patrick Finley, my most successful HS swimmer for the boys' team was the head coach for the Seminole Sharks one point.
  • H2OLoo – Waterloo, WI
    • While at LOO the club had 4 state champions, three state high point runners up, 10 Zone team qualifiers and two Speedo Meet qualifiers, and numerous medalists during my tenure and we stayed somewhere in the top twenty for team results most of the time. We also set approx. 70% of the 40 year old club's records during that five years.

I have a BA (Religious Studies) and teaching credential (K-8) from the University of Arizona.  During my undergrad studies, I completed numerous Theory of Coaching classes.  Served as an Officer in the US Army from ’87 – ‘90.

Through it all I learned the most from the mistakes I made and the success due to the hard work and dedication of the athletes I coached.

I began coaching with OCSC in January 2017 and I love it.  It brings me joy to share my passion of swimming with kids.  Many things that my mom encouraged in my siblings and me I want to also share with the team.  She made us believe that we could do anything that we set our minds to. We were encouraged to believe that we could do more than we thought that we could do.  She not only believed in us, but helped us to believe in ourselves.   She told us to think positively in all things.  It excites me to not only pass this on to my kids, but the swimmers as well.

My goal is to help them become better swimmers and help them grow as people.  I love to help others reach their goals and I hope to touch each of their lives in a positive way.

I have been the Aquatics Director at the Oregon Pool for the last 17 years.  I have a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Elementary Education.  I have been teaching swimming for the past 25 years.

I started teaching as a teacher's aide, here at the Oregon Pool in 1989 when the pool first opened.  I then taught swimming and log rolling in LaCrosse at the LaCrosse YMCA.  When I came back to Oregon I was teaching in the school district and teaching at the pool in the evenings and summer.

I have been coaching with OCSC for the past 11 years.  I am also an instructor for teaching people how to teach swimming lessons, Lifeguarding, and CPR for the American Red Cross.

My son Ben is on the team. I grew up in Evansville, WI and have worked at Attainment Company in Verona for 27 years where I am Vice President of Software and Related Tech. I became an athlete as an adult, starting with running. I learned to swim in 2003 and signed up for IronMan Wisconsin after my 3rd lesson. I’ve been in masters swimming non-stop ever since and swimming quickly became my favorite sport. I often win my age group in the triathlons I compete in. Not your typical triathlon swimmer, I enjoy doing all the strokes and like to do crazy year-end or birthday workouts… like 100x100s on 1:30 or 50x100 IM. My success comes from hard work and improving small details in my stroke.
