Volunteers:

As a not-for-profit, volunteer administered team, the AquaFlyers rely on family involvement to keep our swim team running smoothly and to raise funds which helps keep our program fees reasonable and the team accessible to swimmers. Volunteer commitments range from one-off activities (i.e. bake sales) to year-long Board Roles (i.e. Treasurer).

We understand that as volunteers we have lives outside of swimming, with non-swimming children and careers. That is why we reach out to all AquaFlyer families to encourage helping out whenever possible. We recognize that parents will bring different skills and resources to the organization which can have a direct impact to the success of our team. Volunteerism is a cornerstone of the AquaFlyers (and it is also a great way to interact with other families, parents, coaches and swimmers).

How you can support the team:

Fundraising: Families are needed to assist with our annual Swim-A-Thon, bake sales, silent auctions during out season-ending banquets and other fundraising activities.

Community-Oriented Events: We are always looking for assistance with events that help our community (i.e. Halloween Costume Drive, Food Drives).

Overnight Swim Meets: During the season, we usually schedule an overnight meet. Volunteers are needed to help coordinate hospitality arrangements, team dinner, social gatherings and more.

Team Uniforms & Equipment: Volunteers are needed to help with the selling of team swim suits, sweats, and required equipment at the beginning of each season.

End-of-Season Banquets & Picnics: Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks and functions, from planning and set-up to serving and clean-up.

Ribbon Writers for AquaFlyer In-House Meets (mini-meets): Volunteers are needed to help prepare the ribbons (writing swimmer's name, event and time) after the meets are complete. All swimmers receive ribbons when they participate in mini-meets.

Article Writing: After each meet, we ask a volunteer to draft articles for the local newspapers.

Meet Timing: Volunteers are needed to help time during our in-house mini-meets. Volunteers (assigned) are also needed to time during competitive meets. Please note that timing during competitive meets is required by all families and is outlined in greater detail in the "Meet Timing" section of our website.

CT Swim Officials: For the New Fairfield AquaFlyers to secure spots and participate in USA Swimming meets, we look for 2-3 adults to become certified CT Swim Officials. This is an important and essential role for the competitive swimming community and will require official training and a long-term commitment.

Board of Directors: The Board is comprised of elected volunteers and adults. The board is responsible for conducting the business of the team. Responsibilities include securing and dispersing funds for coaches and team equipment, communications, fundraisers, and organization of non-swim related AquaFlyers activities and needs. Your involvement of the board and/or assistance and participation in board activities is welcome and much appreciated.

Other Opportunities: Photography, Equipment Swaps, Timing Coordinators and more.

As always, your efforts are very much appreciated!
