safe sport

The New Fairfield AquaFlyers (NFAF) as a member of USA Swimming is committed to providing a healthy and positive environment free from abuse for all its members.  USA Swimming’s Safe Sport program, a comprehensive abuse prevention program, consists of a multi-layered approach to keep kids safe, including: required policies and best practice guidelines; mandatory screening, including criminal background checks and employment screening; training and education; monitoring, supervision and mandatory reporting.  These measures are informed by experts in the field of child safety and are among the strongest safeguards found in youth-serving organizations. NFAF is committed to providing a safe environment for all of its athletes. To that end, NFAF has appointed a Safe Sport Coordinator, Caroline Civitano, to assist athletes in voicing their concerns. NFAF has also put in place policies and procedures that make a safe environment for all athletes.

Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP2.0)

The Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP) addresses one-on-one interactions, social media and electronic communications, travel: local and team, locker rooms and changing areas and massages, rubdowns and athletic training modalities. Every USA Swimming club, Zone and LSC is required to implement the MAAPP in full. The Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy must be reviewed and agreed to in writing by all athletes, parents/legal guardians, coaches and other non-athlete members of member clubs on an annual basis with such written agreement to be retained by the club or LSC.

New Fairfield AquaFlyers members and their parents/guardians will need to confirm during the registration process that said policy was read and understood.

Athlete Protection Training

The Athlete Protection Training is provided through the U.S. Center for SafeSport. The required course is found on the USA Swimming LEARN site and must be renewed annually.  All new and existing adult members of USA Swimming, including adult athletes, must satisfactorily complete Athlete Protection Training as required by the U.S. Center for SafeSport.
