Training Teams:

New Fairfield AquaFlyers Swim Team believe that personal development is a process. Our swim team is structured so we can provide the best possible environment for your child to have fun and develop both as a swimmer and individual. We offer training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels -- training that is geared to challenging each swimmer and developing him/her to the best of their ability.

Our program consists of 6 training groups:

Minnows (pre-competiotion):  Minnows will further swimmers development in freestyle and backstroke and learn skills that will lead to swimming breaststroke and butterfly.  Other basic swimming skills such as balance in the water, streamlining and basic diving techniques will be covered while keeping the emphasis on water safety through treading water and sidestroke. Minnows have the opportunity to participate in mini-meets.

DolphinsSwimmers in this group focus on skill development and learning how to better their stroke technique in all four competitive strokes, streamlining and basic diving techniques in preparation for racing starts. Dolphins have the opportunity to participate in mini-meets and may be encouraged to try first USA swim sanctioned meets.

Marlins: Swimmers in this group can swim all four competitive strokes. Introduction to competitive swimming where swimmers focus on stroke technique, racing starts, turns and basic training skills. Swimmers will compete in USA Swim sanctioned meets including CT Regionals and CT Age Groups Championships for those who qualify. Marlins practice (3) times each week for one hour.

Rays: The Rays group focus on continual development of stroke mechanics, introduction to training sets, kicking sets, racing starts and turns.  Swimmers will compete in USA Swim sanctioned meets including CT Regionals and CT Age Groups Championships for those who qualify. The Rays practice (5) times each week for 1 hour.

Sharks: This groups' focus include stroke mechanics, conditioning, race strategies and building skills and stamina required to transition into the Barracuda group. Dryland workouts complement the training and are geared towrds body awareness, flexibility, and body weight strength. Swimmers will compete in USA Swim sanctioned meets including CT Regionals and CT Age Groups Championships for those who qualify. The Sharks practice (6) times each week for one-and-a-half hours.

Barracudas (13 & over): This group works on conditioning, advanced stroke mechanics, event specializing, race strategies and goal setting. Dryland and weight room workouts complement the training and are geared towrds body awareness, flexibility, and strength.  Swimmers will compete in USA Swim sanctioned meets including CT Regionals, CT Age Groups and Senior Championships for those who qualify. The Barracudas practice (6) times each week for 2 hours.

 

Swimmers are grouped based on ability, age and maturity. All swimmers are assigned a training team by the coaching staff.
