Olympic Way Blue Squad Info

  • This Squad is for swimmers 10 & Under years old who have completed a tryout with a RAC Coaching Staff Member.
  • There will be four 10-week sessions throughout the school year/ early summer. Tryouts are held before each session. 
    • We recommend your swimmer be able to commit to at least 2 practices per week. 
  • Practice will be offered 2 or 3 times a week. If practices conflict with a meet, there may not be a practice that day.
  • After concluding one session (10 weeks) of Olympic Way Blue, swimmers will be evaluated at the OW Mini Meet for the following session group placement
    • The mini-meet is an opportunity for kids to showcase their competitive ability in order to progress further in the program. 
    • Swimmers are being evaluated on their ability to demonstrate freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. 
  • Olympic Way Blue will not participate in USA Swim meets; only inter-squad meets hosted by RAC.

Pre-Requirements:

  • Attend a tryout with the RAC Coaching Staff, no more than one month before joining the Program
  • Swimmers must be able to complete a competitive 25 meters of freestyle and backstroke without stopping.
    • Comfortable breathing through stroke
    • No doggy paddle during the breath.
    • Flutter kick
    • Understanding a breaststroke kick
  • We recommend swimmers be 7 prior to trying out. Coaches' discretion will be used. 

Objectives & Expectations

  • In order for swimmers to move from OW Blue to OW Black, swimmers must be able to 
    • 25 meters of breaststroke, legally 
    • 25 meters of freestyle and backstroke legally.
    • Dive comfortable from side/block

Coaches note: 

  • It takes 2-3 consecutive sessions for a swimmer to build the necessary skills needed to progress into the next group. We recommend swimmers who skip a 10-week session, attend a tryout to ensure proper group placement. 

Olympic Way Black Squad Info:

  • This Squad is for swimmers 10 & Under years old who have completed a tryout with a RAC Coaching Staff Member or were moved up from Olympic Way Blue.
  • There will be four 10-week sessions throughout the school year/ early summer. Tryouts are held before each session. 
    • We recommend your swimmer attends every practice session offered for OW Black. 
  • Practice will be offered 2 or 3 times a week. If practices conflict with a meet, there may not be a practice that day.
  • After concluding one session (10 weeks) of Olympic Way Black, swimmers will be evaluated at the OW Mini Meet for the following session group placement
    • The mini-meet is an opportunity for kids to showcase their competitive ability in order to progress further in the program. 
    • Swimmers are being evaluated on their ability to demonstrate all four strokes legally. 

Pre-Requirements:

  • Attend a tryout with the RAC Coaching Staff, no more than one month before joining the Program and be able to 
    • Fulfill the Olympic Way Blue -pre-requirements and legally complete 25 meters of breaststroke.  
  • Be 7-10 years old
  • Swimmers who have successfully concluded one full session of Olympic Way Blue or have completed a tryout with a RAC Coaching Staff Member and
  • Be able to complete 25 meters of freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke, legally.
  • Have a basic understanding of competitive starts.

 
Objectives & Expectations

  • Swimmers who graduate out of the Olympic Way Program should be able to:
    • Demonstrate proper technical understanding of competitive backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle at the Mini Meet
    • Legally complete 25 meters of butterfly.  
    • Demonstrate a competitive start off the block.
