Hello All, I hope this email finds you well. Sorry I have not been in touch. Life is busy teaching 3 kids and checking the work of 20 others As I said last week I believe it is important to have some sort of routine. Each day at 4PM I take my kids out and we go for a walk. I have also started to incorporate some dryland exercises to our routine. Here is what we did last week, give it a try: Tuesday: Warm Up 400 meter run/Walk Every...

Dear All! As we navigate into Week 2, I truly hope this finds everyone healthy and doing well. I can only speak for myself and will admit to not being as disciplined as I had hoped last week. So, over the weekend, I resorted to my “One of These Days” list that had been in my head for so many years and started making it a real list. When will the Y re-open? Again, no one knows. Please know that as soon as we do know, that email will be...

We hope everyone has been able to stay healthy and stay in good spirits. I know it's been a challenge for me to try and create some sort of routine with so much of our normal world being either closed or altered. One of the biggest things I have taken away from being at home this past week is just how fortunate we all are for the things we have. Sometimes it takes an unprecedented event like this to really put into perspective what is most important in life. On...

Good Afternoon Water Rat Senior I, II and III Swimmers and Parents, The purpose of today’s email is to get you all thinking and getting into motion. As I stated in last night’s ALL team email, we do not know just how long we will be out of the water. Doesn’t mean we should put the swim team on the back burner. Quite the opposite. As everyone looks to adjust into a new routine, I would like to suggest everyone add exercise into one’s daily schedule. This can take shape...

Hello All, I hope this news finds you well. I am sure everyone is busy keeping up with their distance learning plans and school work. As you know most pools around the country are closed and USA swimming has halted all meets for 30 days. It is important at this time to stay in some sort of routine. Get up for school; follow your normal schedule and when your work is done get ready for practice. Practice at this time will be much different for everyone. Swimmers should try to...

Dear Water Rat Families, Life, routine, normalcy, whatever you want to call what we do on a daily basis – really what we did do on a daily basis – is no more at this point in time. And, it does not look as though we will back to our regular lives anytime soon. Not trying to be negative but facing the challenges head on. I do not know when the Y will re-open or when we will be back in the water. What I do know is that nearly...

The 8&U and White group are having a charity event and we’re hoping you can help us! In these times when we’re double checking our cleaning supplies and pantry, let’s not forget about our Westport residents in need that also want to protect their families. To that end, we’re fundraising and collecting supplies to donate to the food pantry at the Gillespie Center. The Gillespie Center is an organization that helps Westport residents in need. The Parents’ Club is donating funds for this effort, but you could also contribute by...

Championship Mania continues for the Water Rats as we prepare for the CT Age Group Championships and YMCA National Championships as the final two team championship meets. A couple of items of note: Ø There seems to be some confusion regarding the Senior Invite this weekend – March 5-8 at Wesleyan. This meet is being run long course meters so we are not attending as a team. Ø Age Group Championships – March 12-15 at Chelsea Piers – has qualifying standards and the entry has been finalized and all set...

As pool users, many of you are aware of our ongoing efforts to improve the air quality within the Y’s natatorium. We believe we have taken significant steps to improve the air quality but you should know we are still aiming for even better air standards. The Y’s Board of Directors has been extremely supportive in our efforts. The learning curve has been difficult because there are currently no local, state or federal measurement standards for acceptable tri-chloramines levels, and there is also no automatic test to measure actual tri-chloramine...
