Indiana Swimmers Shine at the 2021 FINA Swimming World Cup

The U.S. mixed 4x50-meter freestyle relay team captured gold in 1:31.50. The team was comprised of Daniel Diehl (YMCA of Cumberland), Quintin McCarty (Pikes Peak Athletics), Kristina Paegle (Indiana Swim Club) and Carly Novelline (NASA Wildcat Aquatics). Paegle’s 23.78 split on the third leg was the fastest of any female swimmer in the heat.

The American quartet of Quintin McCarty (Pikes Peak Athletics), Zhier Fan (Metroplex Aquatics), Tess Howley (Long Island Aquatic Club) and Kristina Paegle (Indiana Swim Club) combined efforts to post a 1:41.55 in the mixed 4x50-meter medley relay to close out the meet, under the previous standard of 1:41.91 set by the U.S. back in 2017. The Americans finished second in the event behind Germany’s 1:39.17.

JoJo Ramey (Fishers Area Swimming Tigers) picked up a silver medal in the women’s 200m backstroke with a time of 2:04.41, sandwiched in between Olympians Kira Toussaint (NED) and Kylie Masse (CAN). Ramey's teammate Kennedy Noble (YMCA Westside Silver Fins) finished fifth in the event in 2:05.81.

Blake Pieroni (Sandpipers of Nevada) added a bronze of his own courtesy of the 100m freestyle, where he was matched up against fellow Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 medalists Kyle Chalmers (AUS) and Matthew Temple (AUS). Pieroni’s bronze gives him his second medal of the meet after finishing third in yesterday’s 100m I.M. The trio of Pieroni, McCarty and Shields are now the only U.S. swimmers to cumulate multiple medals in Berlin.

Other American finalists:
• Blake Pieroni (Sandpipers of Nevada), 4th men’s 200m freestyle, 1:42.87
• JoJo Ramey (Fishers Area Swimming Tigers) – 7th, 100m backstroke, 58.71
