Initial Eligibility Timeline for Division I Recruits

Freshmen & Sophomores

  • Make sure your guidance counselor knows you want to be a college student-athlete.
    • Confirm with counselor that you are taking classes which count as NCAA “core”.
  • The new initial eligibility requirements apply to you – know the new rules and ask questions!
    • You must complete at least 10 core classes prior to the 7th semester (start of your senior year).  These courses are “locked in” and must be used for your eligibility.
  • Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center (www.eligibilitycenter.org) by the end of your sophomore year.
    • Check out the resource section to learn more about your eligibility.
    • Use an email address that you will have access to throughout high school.
    • You must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center to go on “official” visits during your senior year.

  • Take the SAT or ACT and remember to send your scores to the NCAA Eligibility Center (college code: 9999).  Do this each time you take a test!
  • Ask your guidance counselor to send an official transcript to the NCAA Eligibility Center after your junior year.
  • Review your transcript with your counselor to see what core classes must be completed your senior year.

  • Graduate on time.
  • Visit the “My Planner” page in your NCAA Eligibility Center account and complete any open tasks (e.g. sending final transcripts, sending test scores, requesting amateurism, etc.).
    • Monitor your email for communications from the NCAA Eligibility Center.
  • Request your amateurism certification on or after April 1st of your senior year.
  • After graduation, ask your guidance counselor to send your final transcript with proof of graduation to the NCAA Eligibility Center.
  • Stay in frequent contact with your recruiting coach and ask if you need to do anything more.
