The Minnesota Swimming Inc. (MNSI) Board of Directors will consider a proposal from the Finance Committee to eliminate the $3.00 Meet Entry Fee and the 20% splash fee/flat fee shared with meet hosts. It will be replaced with an MNSI Splash Fee determined by dividing annual LSC meet revenue by the estimated number of splashes.

For fiscal year 2020 the amount is calculated at $2.20/splash. The change would go into effect for meets April 1 – August 31, 2020. Thereafter, during the annual budget process, the fee would be reviewed and adjusted according to expenses and membership numbers.

Several informational meetings will be held in the next week. You are invited to participate in the discussion online or via phone:

Tuesday, September 3, 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m.
Wednesday, September 4, 8:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Thursday, September 5, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

To join the meeting via Zoom: https://zoom.us/j/2038483390, or dial +1 929 205 6099, Meeting ID: 203 848 3390

The proposal provides for a simple and consistent funding method that is equitable for the swimmers and clubs, and scalable for single session developmental meets. The MNSI Splash Fee provides revenue for member programs and services throughout the LSC, including:

  • Registering over 10,000 athletes, non-athletes, and clubs.
  • Sanctioning over 200 meets a year
  • Supporting athletes, coaches, and officials participating at zone, regional, and national meets
  • Visiting clubs to mentor coaches and educate boards
  • Offering camps and clinics for athletes and coaches
  • Ensuring compliance with the Olympic and Amateur Sports Act including involving and setting up athletes for success serving on all committees and boards
  • Recruiting, training, mentoring and recognizing officials
  • Educating stakeholders about Safe Sport policies and procedures
  • Expanding opportunities for disabled and disadvantaged swimmers
  • Advocating for opportunities to be more inclusive within the sport
  • Supporting efforts by local government units for competitive swimming pools
  • Ensuring compliance with all Federal laws, USA Swimming objectives and policies, and the requirements of the State of Minnesota
  • Financial management and oversight of MNSI member funds
