2020 Phillips 66 Outstanding Service Award Recipient: Linda McKee

Minnesota Swimming

Congratulations to Linda McKee, Minnesota Swimming's 2020 Phillips 66 Outstanding Service Award Recipient!

At the 2020 Senior Short Course State Championships, Linda McKee was awarded the 2020 Minnesota Swimming Phillips 66 Outstanding Service Award. She received the award from General Chair, Ann Watanabe (right).

Linda holds a very important place in the world of swimming here in Minnesota. Many clubs, and the LSC itself, host meets at the University of Minnesota nearly every month of the year, and as the Aquatic Center Director at the University, Linda is always a trusted and pivotal component that shepherds these meets to completion successfully. In addition to hosting learn to swim events, as well as major national and collegiate events (both USA Swimming and NCAA), Linda constantly exhibits leadership and fortitude.

Linda's support of clubs goes beyond the normal expectation of a facility host. She personally provides her expertise and time to many and finds herself wearing multiple hats on any given weekend (and these weekends aren't normally just two days). She serves USA Swimming in a volunteer capacity at the national governing body's convention. Linda also supported an effort created by a U of M lifeguard to create a more inclusive space for non-cisgender students to swim. The group, Trans Swim, is a biweekly meeting of transgender and non-binary students to swim, providing non-cis individuals an environment to feel comfortable. Linda also is an active volunteer on the club that her daughter swims on. She's not just a "swim Mom;" it is guaranteed she will be found running the computer, taking on announcer duties, or whatever is needed. Perhaps it's that sense of loyalty and duty that has also resulted in her ability to mentor individuals who continue to serve the sport of swimming both here and elsewhere. Linda works tirelessly for swimming in Minnesota and we are ever so fortunate to be able to work with her. It is for these reasons that Linda McKee was chosen for the 2020 Phillips 66 Outstanding Service award.
