Ohio Swimming recognizes the value of the inclusion of swimmers with a disability into both regular season and championships level meets.  Providing greater opportunities and recognition to such athletes is of the highest priority and the policy set forth encourages all member teams to recruit, train and include swimmers with a disability as part of their Age-group and Senior programs

Philosophy of USA-S Disability Swimming
USA Swimming encourages people with disabilities to participate in the sport of swimming and facilitates their inclusion in USA Swimming programs through education and collaboration.

We seek to involve people with disabilities in existing competitions and programs for all swimmers, rather than provide unique disability-only opportunities.

USA-S does not recognize classifications. USA-S has developed  the following groupings which align with motivational time standards for championship meets.

Grouping Descriptions for USA-S swimmers with a disability

P1 ‐ non‐ambulatory (wheelchair-bound): limited use of all four extremities
P2 ‐ dwarfism, multiple limb deficiencies, ambulatory with assistance, can be wheelchair-bound with a high functioning upper body.
P3 ‐ single limb deficiencies, visual impairments, and intellectual impairments, ambulatory without significant assistance
