Larry Jukes Head Coach

Coach Larry Jukes has been a professional swim coach for over 13 years. He was the Head Age Group Coach for the SouthWest STARS swim team in Winter Garden, Florida. Prior to coaching there, Coach Larry was the Head Coach and Aquatics Director of the CRCY Barracudas Swim Team in Centralia, Illinois for ten years. He also continues to coach for Peak Performance Swim Camps having coached camps all across the US and the world.


Coach Larry has qualified swimmers to USA Senior National, USA Junior National, Southern Sectional, Region VIII Sectional, Central Zone Championship, Florida Age Group Championship, Ozark Championship, IHSA State Championship, YMCA Nationals, and YMCA State. He has coached four swimmers in the USA Top 100 Times, one Central Zone Champion, 3 Florida Age Group Champions, 5 Ozark Age Group Champions, one IHSA All American, 7 YMCA National Top Ten Times, and 20+ YMCA State Champions. In addition, one member of his team achieved international status by qualifying for the 2012 World Swimming Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, and also earning multiple gold medals at the Central American Games.


In 2019, Coach Larry was selected as a coach to the Florida Zone Team. He was named Head Coach for the 2020 Florida Zone Team. Coach Larry also served many years as Coach Representative to the Heartland Area YMCA Committee (IL/MO).


As a swimmer, Coach Larry earned a Top 16 ranking in the 100-yard freestyle at age 14. He continued his swimming career at Vincennes University where he was a finalist at the NJCAA National Swimming Championships and later served as captain of the swim team at the University of Evansville. While attending college, Coach Larry earned an accounting degree and a law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.


Coach Larry and his wife, Susan, have three children. The oldest, Heath, graduated in May 2020 from Florida Southern College with a BS in Psychology. The younger two, Keegan and AnnDaleigh, swim for the Tsunami!

Austin Axe Head Age Group Coach

Austin Axe has had a passion for swimming since he was just 6 years old. He achieved recognition for being top 16 when he was ten years old, for backstroke throughout the Country, and held several records in Ohio.


Austin started coaching his neighborhood summer team, the Lincolnshire Sharks, at the age of 16 and coached them for 7 years. After graduating from Central Catholic High School, in 2013, he started coaching swimming year-round for Sylvania Tsunami. In 2018, Austin moved to Findlay and was the Head Coach for the summer team, the Canterbury Stingrays, and has been the Head Coach for the Findlay Area Swim Team.


In addition to coaching year-round, Austin has also worked for the Toledo Public School District and the Findlay City School district as a paraprofessional for children with disabilities.


He enjoys working with swimmers to set obtainable personal goals and help train swimmers safely and effectively!


In his free time, you will find Austin spending time with his girlfriend and their many pets.

Lori Yaross Senior Group Coach

Coach Lori Yaross started with Tsunami in 2015 where she works with the Senior and Blue group.

She is also the head coach at St. John's Jesuit High School and Notre Dame Academy. Where she has been coaching there since 2010. In 2014, she received the TRAC Coach of the Year award and was nominated for BCSN Coach of the Season in 2015.

Coach Yaross was the co-founder of the Dundee Dragon Swim Club in Dundee, Michigan, and has been served as head coach since 2007-2015. She also served as the Erie Mason head coach from 2007-11, in Erie, Michigan.

Coach Yaross graduated from Erie Mason High School in 1999. She qualified for state competition her sophomore through senior seasons and held five school records. She competed at Cleveland State University, where she was a team captain for three years.

After receiving her undergraduate degree in education from Cleveland State University in 2005, Coach Yaross then followed with her Master's degree in Education, with a focus in Reading, from Lourdes University in 2013. She has been teaching since 2006 and has been teaching St. John's Jesuit Academy since 2014.

She likes to spend her free time with family and friends. She also enjoys spending her time outdoors and traveling.

Kelsey Mefferd Age Group Coach

Coach Kelsey started swimming at the age of 5 and continued to swim during all 4 years at Perrysburg High School. During her time there, she was a team captain her senior year and also and holds multiple records.

Coach Kelsey has been an assistant coach and swim lessons instructor at Belmont Country Club, and most recently, the Fort Meigs YMCA. She has been Sylvania Tsunami since 2014.

Coach Kelsey majored in Spanish with a minor in Marketing at Bowling Green State University. She graduated from BGSU in 2015. Kelsey is currently in Customer Service for a local insurance company. 

In her spare time, Kelsey is an avid reader.

Coach Kelsey's favorite strokes are Backstroke and distance Freestyle!
