Head Coach

Position Summary: The Tosa Aquatic Club Head Coach is a part time position responsible for the direct supervision of the Tosa Aquatic Club (USA Competitive Swim Team) and Assistant Coaches as assigned. This position requires solid leadership, but more important a dedication to coaching swimmers to reach their full potential. A successful candidate will possess a high degree of patience, dependability and a strong commitment to communication with Recreation Program Coordinator, assistant coaches, parent board and swimmers and parents.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess current Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.  Water Safety Instructor (W.S.I.) certification or equivalent experience/training preferred (instructor is responsible for updating and keeping certification current). Able to obtain Safety Training for Swim Coaches, and USA certification within 60 days of hire, or show proof that it has been completed, and maintain USA Coaching certifications and standards.  Must also be able to pass the USA Swimming background check and Wauwatosa School District background check prior to final hire.
  • Have at least 3 years of coaching background; Club Head coaching experience desired.
  • Have a passion for competitive swimming, enthusiasm for working with young athletes, and be able to teach and motivate swimmers with a positive approach.
  • Available for at least 4 weeknight practices (and any morning practices added to the schedule, or the ability to schedule coaches for morning practices)
  • Maintain discipline and safety at practices. Develop a system for determining what the problem is and how to handle it (i.e. talk to swimmer, call caregiver, have swimmer sit out of practice, etc). Inform Assistant Coaches of procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Seek out, interview and secure assistant coaching staff as needed, with approval from the Program Coordinator. Confirm potential assistant coaches with Recreation Coordinator on preferred hire (Program Coordinator will reach out to the candidate to complete the hiring process).
  • Set practice times for groups in the allotted time available.
  • Develop daily practices and conduct practices.
  • Organize stroke clinics.
  • Ability to write/modify practices for various levels of ability
  • Work with Assistant Coaches to develop daily practice plans and seasonal plans; encourage coaches to write their own practices with guidance from Head Coach.
  • Have a strong knowledge of stroke and swimming technique
  • Coach weekend meets or designate/assign coaches to club designated meets and notify the Recreation Department, in advance, of who will be the coach on deck. 
  • Encourage swimmers to participate in USA swimming sanctioned swim meets and assist parents in determining which events would be appropriate for their child to swim. 
  • Organize relay teams/events for designed meets.
  • Keep track of coaches hours at meets and submit a list of meets with coaches hours and payroll.
  • Inform Recreation Coordinator of coaches meeting for payroll purposes.
  • Work closely with the Wauwatosa Recreation Department Program Coordinator and TOSA Aquatic Club Parent Board.  Attend monthly board meetings.
  • Pick meets for the season with the Parent Board
  • Develop a method, along with the assistant coaches, for setting goals for the team and individual swimmers.
  • Establish and enforce rules of conduct for practices and at swim meets (this includes in the pool, locker rooms and general school areas)
  • Communicate with parents and swimmers (check ins, feedback, concerns, etc) including, but not limited to, concerns about coaches and addressing those concerns.
  • Maintain Team Unify website (designate someone in case of emergency)
  • Manage/Maintain/Update team and swimmer records
  • Maintain Concussion Information and Acknowledgement Forms
  • Schedule (book facility space through rec), organize and facilitate New Swimmer Meeting as well Team Meeting.

Head Age Group Coach
SWMKE is a coach owned team located on the southeast side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Bay View/St. Francis/Cudahy area).

The team is seeking an individual interested in applying for the team's Head Age Group Coach position beginning as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity to join a staff of an ever-growing competitive program/business and become a key person in the further development of a privately owned team. Coaching experience is preferred but at a minimum a background in competitive swimming is necessary. If needed, SWMKE will reimburse expenses to become a certified US Swimming coach.

This is an hourly position @ $15-25/hour depending on qualifications and experience This job has the potential to develop into a salaried position after one year with the team. Approximately 10-15 deck and administrative hours a week plus meets is required. Private lesson time is available as an optional opportunity to increase income.

Major responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Planning and implementing SWMKE's Age Group program in and out of the water in coordination with the Head Senior Coach and Head Novice Coach
  • Actively promote and grow the SWMKE Age Group program
  • Handle Age Group administrative duties as assigned by the Head Coach, including but not limited to, developing the season training plans & goals for all Age Group training levels, the construction of daily practices, AG meet entries, AG parent & swimmer communication

Swim Lesson Supervisor
Lake Country Swim Team manages recreational aquatic activities at the Arrowhead High School Pool in Hartland, Wisconsin, including a robust summer swim lesson program.  We need a Swim Lesson Supervisor for the 2021 summer season.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Swim Lesson Supervisor is responsible for program participant safety and enjoyment. The Swim Lesson Supervisor acts as a liaison between the program participants and Lake Country Swim Team. The Swim Lesson Supervisor directly reports to the Lessons Director.

This is a part-time summer position, 25-30 hours week:  Monday-Thursday approx. 9:00 AM-1:30PM and 5:30 PM-8:00 PM, with some variation and flexibility.  Starting date on or about June 1.  Lesson programming begins on June 21.

Specific Responsibilities:
The Swim Lesson Supervisor is present on the pool deck during swim lessons. They are responsible for ensuring that swim lessons start and end on time, swimmers are in the correct class and level. This includes conducting swimming assessments, as needed. The lesson supervisor is also responsible for ensuring the pool and pool-deck are maintained in a safe and orderly manner during swim lessons. The lesson supervisor is responsible for adequate and appropriate staffing of each swim session and providing supervision of swim instructors.  Additional responsibilities include assisting parents and swimmers with program registration and scheduling.  Job duties to include, but not limited to:

  • Ensure pool is set-up and ready for lessons to begin, and cleaned up after
  • Be available to help teachers, students and parents during lessons
  • Planning and coordinating teachers to lead lessons
  • Prepare class lists prior to the start of each lesson, organizing students into correct levels
  • Troubleshoot for absent teachers, etc
  • Collect and organize student waivers
  • Prepare student progress cards for each session; update and file after each session
  • Maintain daily and end of session awards/prizes
  • Monitor and care for lessons equipment
  • Attend or lead staff meetings as required
  • Be a knowledgeable resource on teaching and swimming fundamentals for young teachers
  • Conduct periodic staff evaluations
  • Additional administrative duties as assigned by Lessons Director
  • Assist with instructor training

Requirements:

  • Swim lesson teaching experience
  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Must be proficient in basic swimming skills
  • Knowledge and comprehension of community recreation and programs, including accepted standards, principles and concepts
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables
  • Ability to demonstrate professional public relations skills, which includes effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Must pass criminal background check

Compensation:

  • Hourly rate based on experience $14-$20/hour

Age Group Lead Coach
Lake Country Swim Team, Hartland Wisconsin, is seeking an hourly coach to be the lead coach for one or more of our Age Group practice groups in Hartland.  Ideal candidate is enthusiastic, engaging, a strong communicator and team player.  Candidates must possess or be able to acquire USA Coaching Certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and administer practices for assigned groups based on training plan developed in collaboration with Head Age Group Coach.
  • Attend meets scheduled for assigned practice groups.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and swimmers regarding group objectives and swimmer development.
  • Collaborate with Age Group coaching staff to ensure unity of objectives and processes used to develop young swimmers.
  • Model excellent character promoting values like hard work, commitment, integrity, teamwork, sportsmanship, etc.
  • Assist and substitute practices as needed.
  • Administrative tasks assigned by the Head Coach.

Pay and responsibilities are dependent on candidate’s experience and skills.  Hours range from 7-20/week.  Pay is competitive with comparable area clubs.  Start date is September 1, or sooner.

SUPERVISOR: Swim Team Head Coach

RESPONSIBILITIES: (partial listing)

  • Develop positive relationships with participants and provide motivational support and guidance.
  • Coach individual swimmers on proper stroke techniques, encouraging each team member to reach their potential.
  • Model and explain appropriate sportsmanship.
  • Address and redirect inappropriate sportsmanship.
  • Maintain records and participant communications as requested by Head Coach (i.e.practice schedule, swim meet entries, awards, etc).
  • Prepare pool and facilities for usage, clean up and close down after practice and events.
  • At the discretion of the Head Coach, attend staff meetings, workshops and seminars to increase knowledge and skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Individuals in this job must have the following abilities: demonstrated ability to teach the development of swimming skills; instruct and observe proper stroke techniques; motivate and effectively communicate with members and parents; exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making; stay alert to potential safety problems; get along with people of diverse backgrounds; lift a minimum of 50 lbs and have full range of body movement.
Candidates must become a coach member of USA Swimming and must have or willing to satisfactorily completed safety training, background check, and athlete protection training required by USA Swimming as well as at least 18 years of age.

We are primarily looking for entry level age group coaches to help our early to mid-level swimmers.

Assistant Swim Coaches
The Southwest Aquatic Team (SWAT) is not-for-profit competitive swim team located in the southwest section of the greater Milwaukee area.  Our program is one of the top ranking teams in Wisconsin and carries over 100 swimmers.  We have a dedicated volunteer-based parent board, pride ourselves as athlete focused and a coach supported organization.  We also have a swim school affiliated with our program serving as a feeder system.    

SWAT is looking for a reliable, motivated and enthusiastic coaches to assist with our program.  Positions are available with different age groups or certain nights of the week.  Our groups are divided between different characteristics such as age, commitment, skill and fitness levels. 

Partial responsibilities of an assistant Coach are listed below. 

  • Current USA Swimming certifications or willingness to obtain within two months of employment.
  • Assist or administer practices scheduled to help.
  • Attend meets on the schedule if necessary. 
  • Communicate with the swimmers while at practice.
  • Complete other tasks as determined by the Program Director. 

This position could consist of 6 to 20 hours a week depending on the particular group coaching and personal availability.  Compensation will be based upon experience and is highly competitive to other area swim programs.  Definite start date is Monday, March 29th or until filled. 

We are looking for candidates with a dynamic personality, passionate towards swimming, dependable and have strong communication and organizational skills.  Our ideal person will have (but not required) competitive swimming experience and live somewhere near the greater Milwaukee area or willing to move into the region. They will also possess high moral character, strong ethics and will value the hard work in developing young athletes.  Our coaches are role models to our athletes and mentors to our staff.  We have a rich foundation of excellence and a culture of not only bettering swimmers but also bettering people.  We do this by fostering lifetime skills though examples and experiences.

Head Coach
The Ashwaubenon Swim Club (ASC) is a non-profit association focused on competitive and recreational swimming for swimmers of ages 6-18+ years and co-sponsored with Ashwaubenon Park and Recreation Department.  We are expecting our head coach to develop leaders and accomplished swimmers in a team environment through a commitment to swimmer evaluation, goal development and sound swimming technique, while challenging athletes with endurance and physical fitness associated with competitive swimming.

Job Responsibilities

  • Be approachable, visible and communicate openly with all club members and swim team families. 
  • Bring an enthusiastic and energetic approach to each and every practice and swim meet.  Focus on swimmer development which rewards effort and commitment as well as results.
  • Develop strong relationships with all swimmers on the team, board members, assistant coaches, high school coaches and Park & Rec personnel.
  • Facilitate and run daily and weekend practices, including dryland activities, with the help of assistant coaches as pool and facility time allows.
  • Design and oversee training plans for all training groups and develop methods to track swimmers’ progress throughout the season.  Set goals with swimmers and monitor phases of individual swimmer development including but not limited to stroke technique, starts and turns, and interval timing.
  • Schedule, organize, and facilitate each season’s home and away meet schedule consistent with the needs of the team, individual training groups, athletes and their families.
  • Assist with the preparation, operation and clean-up of practices, home swim meets, and team functions in our state-of-the-art facility that we call home.
  • Support and exemplify USA Swimming’s Safe Sport initiative.
  • Keep current with research in aquatics related areas and actively participate in the Wisconsin Swimming House of Delegates quarterly meetings.
  • Hours will vary based on practice and meet times

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • General swim knowledge and competitive swim coaching experience.
