The NATO Marlins Swim Club (NMS) was established in 1992 as the NATO Swim Club (NSC) existing in co-operation with the SHAPE Seals. In May 2005 the NSC was renamed NATO Marlins, becoming an independant club within the European Forces Swim League (EFSL). The NMS governance falls under the NATO Cultural & Social Club Sponsorship. The swim coaches are all qualified swim instructors who speak multiple languages including English and French.
The main goal of the team is to promote good sportsmanship, physical fitness and individual achievement in a safe, competitive environment. Swimmers from all NATO and PfP Nations are highly encouraged to join. Family members of employees of Brussels Airlines, Euro Control, Sabca, Avia, European Union, KPMG, European Space Agency and any other person who is eligible to become a NATO HQ Staff Centre Member are also welcome. Other individuals may be sponsored to join the NATO Marlins if authorized by the NATO Office of Security to enter the Staff Centre. NMS membership affords the unique opportunity to interact with swimmers from many nations and cultures. Participation in the NMS Competition Swim Team is critical to making a successful swim season. If you can help in any way, simply contact any of the board members listed. In short, without volunteers there is no program for the swimmers!
The NMS training program, conducted at the NATO HQ Staff Center Swimming Pool, is designed to include safe and modern swim training methods, theory and technique, good sportsmanship and sound nutritional advice. The coaching staff, led by the Head Coach, is well-trained, experienced and ready to work with you. Please contact the staff early on if you have any questions or concerns.
The NMS offers a challenging and rewarding program which combines the best of both individual and team sports. In addition to team recognition, students of the Brussels American School may receive an athletic letter for participating in regular practices and meets for the winter sports season based upon established criteria, a recommendation from the coach and the approval of the Executive Board.
