Welcome to the NATO MARLINS International Swim Team!

Come and swim with us!

 SWIMMING GROUPS and PRACTICES

NATO Marlins practices are divided into three groups according to ability and skill.

Bronze: The Bronze group is generally for swimmers that are new to competitive swimming. The focus is on improving stroke technique prior to endurance as it is not beneficial to increase total distance per practice if the swimmer is doing the strokes incorrectly. Bronze swimmers should swim 2- 3 days per week (more is allowed).

Silver: The largest age range of swimmers can be found in the Silver group. The Silver group is generally for children 9 and above who have good technique in their swimming strokes and require some technique work, but are ready for more rigorous training. Along with having good technique, swimmers must show more dedication to the sport and consistent hard effort at every practice. A commitment of 3- 4 days per week is recommended to swim with the Silver group (more is allowed).

Gold: The Gold group is  typically composed of swimmers age 12 and above that need minimal technique work on strokes, starts and turns. They are highly motivated, and focus more on endurance and fine tuning. A commitment of 3-5 days per week is recommended to swim with the Gold group (more is allowed).

Please note: It is possible for a swimmer to move up a group during the season based on effort and improvement. It is also possible for a child to move down a group due to lack of effort or missed practices.

PLEASE BE ON TIME!  Practices will begin with team captain-led warmups on the pool deck. It is for the benefit of the swimmer to stretch and prepare the body for the intensity of the day’s training.  Traffic is unpredictable in Brussels. It is recommended you plan to drop off swimmers 15 minutes prior to scheduled training to allow time to change and warmup on land.
