Sea Dragons Swim Club – Head Coach Position

Penfield, NY - Sea Dragons Swim Club is a non-profit, USA Swimming Club for competitive swimmers age 5 – 19, part of the Niagara LSC (Local Swimming Committee).  We are seeking an experienced, organized, and positive Head Coach to help bring our club to the next level. This position is full year. You will be working with the coaching staff to develop a program that will create a solid foundation for age group swimmers, while increasing our senior swimming success. You must possess a high degree of emotional maturity, be able to motivate children with varied attributes, and foster strong communication with parents. You must have a strong desire to create a positive training environment for all swimmers to achieve success in the pool and life and be willing to grow to make this your ultimate goal.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Team leader, coordinator, ambassador and swimming subject matter expert
    • Ability to demonstrate mature judgment, reliability, availability, and ethical behavior including punctuality, confidentiality, positive and constructive feedback, and ability to function in a multi-task environment
    • Ability to meet all USA Swimming certification and coaching requirements (CPR, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, USA Swimming Background Check, Athlete Protection, Lifeguard, First Aid, Concussion, etc.)
    • Approximately 20-30 hours per week, depending on practice/meet schedules and administrative needs
    • Attend 2-3 swim meets per month (during season)
    • Perform various administrative tasks relating to the team
  • Swimmer development
    • Emphasize proper stroke technique and understand the progression for each training group
    • Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices in based on pre-developed annual training plan.
    • Positively and constructively communicate and motivate children with the ability to consider varied social, emotional and physical attributes
    • Manage, observe, and constructively evaluate swimmer performance at practices and meets to enhance technique and motivation
    • Work directly in and out of the water instructing swimmers of all ages/abilities
  • Family engagement
    • Take proactive steps to communicate/educate parents about club policies, procedures, stroke technique, meet entry, and registration
  • Manage, develop and schedule Assistant Coaches
    • determine best fit coaching schedule and training group(s) for each Assistant Coach, aligning the full team of coaches
    • supervise and develop coaching staff, individually and to work cohesively as a team

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • College Degree
  • 3+ years competitive swim coaching experience and coaching membership that is in good standing with USA Swimming
  • Energetic, patient, constructive, and ability to provide simple instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to work well and communicate effectively with swimmers of all ages/abilities, staff and administrators
  • Computer proficiency, including email, internet navigation (especially, Excel, Word, Meet Manager, Team Unify Back Office, and Deck Pass
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for continuing coaching education

Assistant Coach – Developmental Age Group

Marlins Swimming is a competitive swim club located on the West Side of Rochester, NY. We offer a year-round USA Swimming program for competitive age group (5-18 years old) swimmers and are seeking an Assistant Coach to work alongside the Program Director/Head Coach and other assistant coaches to enhance the team. The team practices out of local school facilities six days per week.

This position will primarily work with our developmental age group levels reinforcing the technical aspects of swimming. The Assistant Coach position requires a motivated, enthusiastic coach with experience and knowledge in competitive swimming. Candidates should exhibit the necessary professionalism and maturity to communicate with swimmers of all abilities, their parents, and the club's head and assistant coaches. Candidate will be contracted by Marlins Swimming and will work with the head coach to promote the overall success of the club. Compensation will depend on experience and qualifications.


  • USA Swimming Coach Certification in good standing (or willingness to achieve)
  • Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certified preferred
  • Strong background in competitive swimming
  • Completion of high school
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Working knowledge of basic USA Swimming rules and regulations

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage swim practices and attend swim meets in a coordinated effort with the Assistant and Head Coach(es).
  • Work with other Assistant Coaches and Head Coach to implement age-appropriate swim programs for all swimmers, including personal goal setting. Inspire and challenge each swimmer to achieve his or her goals and develop positive self-esteem.
  • Display professional behavior at all times when representing Marlins Swimming (e.g., at practices, meets, and other club events).

Clarence Swim Club

Learn To Swim (LTS) Head Coach

Clarence Swimming is seeking a highly qualified individual to lead our learn to swim program and develop the stroke technique and passion for swimming in our youngest members. The Head Coach is responsible for overseeing the registration and instruction of nearly 300 participants and over 30 instructors and lifeguards.

Certification Requirements

  1. LTS Head Coach must hold the following certifications:
    1. USA Swimming Level 1 Coaching Certification and/ or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.
    2. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification
    3. Special Olympics Coaching Certification.

On Deck Work Responsibilities

  1. LTS currently holds four seasonal registrations:
    1. Fall: September – December
    2. Winter: January – March
    3. Spring: April – June
    4. Summer: July & August
  2. On deck coaching hours have a history of occurring:
    1. Mondays – Thursdays, 5:15 PM to 8:45 PM.
    2. Saturdays, 8:15 AM to 1:30 PM.

Management Responsibilities

  1. In conjunction with the BOD and the club head coach, the LTS coach shall assist in the preparation of the annual business plan.  The business plan will include measurable objectives, detailed action plans to accomplish each objective with due dates. The BOD will have final approval of the annual business plan.
  2. The LTS Head Coach shall be responsible for hiring and termination of coaching staff and instructors.  
  3. The LTS Head Coach shall design the day to day coaching schedule, and the site Supervisor will assign coaches to specific Levels.
  4. The LTS Head Coach shall be responsible for setting up and managing all LTS registrations.
  5. The LTS Head Coach shall be responsible for managing the LTS website.


Technical Responsibilities

  1. The LTS Head Coach shall be responsible for establishing consistent, best teaching practices for all swimmers to develop proper stroke technique.
  2. The LTS Head Coach shall be responsible for assuring appropriate lesson coverage.
  3. The LTS Head Coach shall be available for parents’ inquiries. LTS Coach will answers emails, phone calls, and all on deck concerns.
  4. The LTS Head Coach shall be responsible for the education and supervision of all coaching staff and instructors.  The education plan and associated expenses will be included in the annual plan.
