A mentor told me that "happy swimmers are fast swimmers".  Keep the kids happy and having fun and they will swim fast. Here are some ways to increase your happiness while swimming:

  • Get more sleep
  • Don't get stressed about bad practices or meets
  • Be an outgoing friend
  • Find some quiet time for yourself at meets
  • Talk with your friends and put down your cell phone
  • Do something nice for a teammate
  • Be a good loser
  • Eat smarter
  • Don't compare yourself to anyone
  • Schedule time with friends away from the pool
