Senior Warriors Post Impressive Swims at Speedo East Junior National Championships!

Speedo Winter Junior National East Championships

North Carolina is fast becoming a second home to many of our elite Senior athletes, as ten ATAC Warriors made the trek to the Greensboro Aquatic Center to compete in the Speedo Junior National East Championships!

Coach Terry Maul was especially pleased with the results, coming soon after the high school state championships!

Earning new short course Senior Cuts were:

Junior Nationals (JNSC)

  • Lydia Hanlon (200 Free, 200 Fly)
  • Joshua Wurgler (1650 Free)

Futures (FUT)

  • Jonathon Butler (50 Free)
  • Ethan Ekk (100/200 Back)
  • Isabella Ekk (100 Back)

Southern Sectionals (SZSS)

  • Ethan Ekk (400 IM)

Placing in the Top 24 in at least one event were:

  • Lydia Hanlon (6th, 200 Back; 17th, 100 Back)
  • Stuart Higdon (10th, 500 Free; 13th, 1650 Free)
  • Stella Grace Watts (9th, 500 and 1650 Free)
  • Joshua Wurgler (11th, 1650 Free)

There were several Team Records broken at the meet!

Girls 17-18

  • Lydia Hanlon:  100 Back (53.59; old record: 55.68)
  • Lydia Hanlon:  200 Back (1:55.64; old record: 1:58.05)

Boys 13-14

  • Ethan Ekk:  200 Back (1:49.63; old record: 1:51.17)
  • Ethan Ekk:  400 IM (4:08.60; old record: 4:08.67)

Additionally, there was an old Team Relay Record that went down in Greensboro!

Open Boys

  • 800 Free Relay:  6:44.32 (old record from 2013: 6:47.03)

Ryder Gentry, Jonathon Butler, Jonas Wars, Stuart Higdon

 

Large time drops are hard to come by at such a high-level competition; nonetheless, two Warriors had impressive swims that qualified them for “Biggest Losers!”

Joshua Wurgler, -17.53s, 1650 Free
