Terry Maul Head Coach

Coach Terry Maul directs all phases of the ATAC program and is the on-deck coach for the ATAC senior program. He was voted the 2014 Senior coach of the year by the Florida Swimming LSC. Coach Maul has 50 years coaching experience which include the following accomplishments: American Swim coaches Association level 5 certification (the highest level) for both USS club and NCAA. Head coach of the USA National Junior Team in Montreal, Canada in 1992. Head coach of USA National team in Rio de Janiero, Brazil in 1984. Served as head coach of swimming at Florida State University for 18 years (1975 - 1993). Coach Maul has developed numerous Olympic Trial qualifiers, Senior National finalists, and Junior National finalists as well as several USS age group swimmers in the national top 16. In addition to his duties with ATAC, Coach Maul has been an assistant professor of statistics and sociology at Thomas University in Thomasville, GA since 1996. Coach Maul is married to Dr. Jodi Yambor-Maul and has two children, John (a Junior National qualifier and a sophomore swimmer at Florida State University), and Alyssa (a two time Olympic trial qualifier, and currently a second year doctoral student of Physical Therapy at Florida Gulf Coast University.)

Peter Hegwein Head Age Group Coach

Coach Peter Hegwein is a 1984 graduate of The Florida State University with a degree in Biochemistry. Following a successful 24-year career with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in sales/marketing and sales training, he followed his true passion and became a professional swim coach. In 2008, Peter started coaching the “Original” Sarasota Masters, building the program from 23 participants to over 70 in 2010. That same year, he joined the Sarasota Tsunami Swim Team as an age group coach, under the mentorship of Coach Ira Klein. Coach Peter served as Head Coach for the Lakewood Ranch High School Swim Team from 2011 to 2012, guiding 4 non year-round swimmers to the State Championships in individual events (2 finalists). For his efforts, he was named Boys Coach of the Year by the Sarasota Herald Tribune both years. From 2013-2015, Coach Peter directed the age group program at the Charlotte County Swim Team, Punta Gorda branch. In 2015 under his leadership, CCS had its highest point totals ever at the Florida Age Group Spring Championships (FLAGS). In 2019, Peter was nominated for the ASCA (American Swim Coaches Association) Age Group Coach of the Year. Coach Peter has recently been serving as assistant and site coach (Englewood) for the Venice/Englewood YMCA, under the guidance of Head Coach Bruce Patmos. He has developed numerous FLAGS and Florida All-Star participants,FLAGS champions, Southern Zone qualifiers, YMCA Nationals Qualifier, and National Top 10 age group finalists. In addition to being an ASCA Level 3 coach, Peter holds certifications from USA Swimming as a Starter and Deck Referee. Born in Colorado, Peter has resided in Sarasota since 1970, and was a competitive swimmer with the Greater Sarasota Aquatics Club. Peter is married to Cindy, a Clinical Case Manager, and a former competitive swimmer from Westfield, New Jersey. Peter's daughter Natalie is a former ATAC age group / novice coach.

Sami Pochowski Presenior/Senior Coach

Sami is currently working on her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation at Thomas University. She completed her Undergraduate degree at Florida State University in Exercise Science while apart of the Varsity Swimming team (2012-2016). An unusual pairing, Sami swam the 200, 100, and 50 free while also swimming the 100 breaststroke. She competing at the ACC conference meets all four of her years and made it to NCAAs two of those years. In her senior year of high school (2012), she competed at the Olympic Trials in the 100 meter breaststroke. Sami has been working with ATAC for almost three years now and is looking forward to seeing the swimmers grow into young adults, better friends, and great athletes!

Amanda Meyer Novice Cordinator

Amanda first started coaching for ATAC in 2006 when she relocated from Hollywood, FL to attend Florida State University. At FSU Amanda earned her degree in Early Childhood Education, and she currently teaches second grade at a local public school. Amanda took a step away from the pool deck for a couple of years to focus on her teaching career and has ultimately made her way back to coaching during the fall of 2018. As a swimmer Amanda enjoyed swimming distance freestyle, 200-fly and open water events. 

Jill Tabacchi Thomasville Coach

Jill grew up in Brooks County, Georgia and started her swimming career at the age of 13 at the Thomasville YMCA where she now coaches the Thomasville ATAC team. In high school, Jill moved to Athens where she trained with members of the University of Georgia coaching staff as a member of the Athens Bulldog Swim Club. She earned a swimming scholarship to Eastern Michigan University where she was a team captain and conference champion, earning a bachelor's degree in Family & Child Development. She is married to Pat Tabacchi and has three children, Caitlin, Sam, and Ben.

Coach Grace Nekrasas Challenger/ Novice Coach

Grace Nekrasas is currently a student at Florida State University studying Special Education. She is originally from Roswell, Georgia but was drawn to Florida for the warmer weather, and beaches. Her swimming career began when she was seven years old and she has loved the sport ever since! She swam on the Marietta Marlins for 13 years and began coaching at the age of 14 with her summer swim team. At ATAC, she works with the Challenger, Novice, and High School Conditioning groups. She loves the sport of swimming and hopes to share that love with all of our swimmers.

Coach Ally Russo Novice Coach

Ally is from St. Petersburg, Florida and comes from a family of swimmers including my immediate and extended family! She swam in her first meet when she was three years old and didn’t stop until she finished high school. She swam for West Florida Lightning Aquatics, a year-round team, as well as Bardmoor Aquatic Team, a summer league team. She started coaching for Bardmoor for three summers and primarily worked with three to eight year olds. The pool deck is practically her home and she hopes to instill the love of the sport in the little ones as her coaches have for her! She is currently a second year student at Florida State University studying to become a Dietitian and hopes to go on to Physician Assistant School.

Coach Sofia Rodriguez Novice Coach

Sofia is currently a junior studying Mechanical Engineering at Florida State. She is originally from Miami, Florida where her passion for swimming and coaching began. She started competing at 5 years old and hasn’t left the sport since. She began coaching in 2016 and has continued her love for coaching at ATAC in 2018. Her favorite events were 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

Gerry Norris Consultant

Gerry has coached and worked in Sports Management and Administration for 39 years. He has facilitated the growth and expansion of Sports and Recreation in Tallahassee/Leon County through the Tallahassee Parks and Recreation Department, which was recognized as the NUMBER ONE Recreation Department in the country in 2004 (National Recreation and Parks Association “Gold Medal Award”). He has served on state and national Boards of Directors for various competitive sports, as well as having presented Sports and Customer Service seminars and clinics at professional conferences and retreats. 1968 – 1972 ….Florida State Varsity Swimmer 1969 – 1974…..Head Coach of the Tallahassee Swim Team (TST) 1974 – 1984…..City of Tallahassee Aquatic Supervisor and A/G coach for ATAC (formally TST) 1984 – 2006…...City of Tallahassee Athletic Superintendent Swimming is a family affair. Gerry is married to Karen (Synchronized swimming coach for 30 years and current Southern Zone Rep. for US Synchro) and has three children; Katie,  (2005 Collegiate and US National Solo Champion – Synchro), Karla, ( 13 year ATAC swimmer and current FSU Water Polo President), and Christopher, (current NOVA Southeastern Collegiate Swimmer and ATAC swimmer).
