Peter Verhoef
Head Coach/Aquatics Director/Camp Director
Verhoef brings with him a wealth of experience in national, international and Olympic competitions. During the past three years, he has earned acclaim as a Senior Coach and High Performance Director for SwimMAC, a globally competitive swimming program in Charlotte, N.C. There, he worked with the Senior 1 program – a group that includes the highest performing 15-18 year-olds – and also directed the program’s age 15 and over programs from state to national levels. Senior athletes from SwimMAC have achieved positions on the USA National Junior Team, won Junior National Championships, and recorded the highest number of scholastic All-Americans of any program in the country. Prior to that, Verhoef assisted in coaching SwimMAC’s Team Elite program for Olympic level athletes from 2010-16. During this time, Team Elite athletes combined for a total of nine gold, four silver and one bronze. Throughout his tenure at SwimMAC, Verhoef helped guide strategic decisions including staff development, growth, team culture, member relationships and more.
Prior to SwimMAC, Verhoef was the Assistant Head Coach for Men’s and Women’s swimming at Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina, coaching elite swimmers from 2013-15. In this role, he experienced all facets of leadership from the pool deck–including coaching, recruiting, scheduling, compliance, administration, travel and outreach. During his tenure there, Verhoef greatly contributed in assisting the team to win the 2015 NCAA DII Championships for both the men’s and women’s teams.
As a student-athlete, Verhoef found success in the pool and classroom at the University of Georgia where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration and double majored in Management and Management Information Systems in 2007 from the Terry College of Business. While at Georgia, he was a finalist at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Trials and represented the United States at the World Championships in 2007 where he also served as the Team USA Team Captain and earned a Silver medal at the World University Games in 2005. He was also the recipient of UGA’s Jeff Poppell Leadership Award in 2006, among many other honors.
Dale A Porter
Head Age Group Coach / Head Great Whites
Porter is a familiar face in competitive swimming on the first coast. He came across the river to the Bolles Sharks in 2010 from the Spartan Aquatic Club (SPAC) in Orange Park, where he served as the program’s Head Coach from 2004-10. During his tenure with SPAC Porter has coached swimmers to number one rankings at the local, state, and national level. Porter also served as the Head Coach for St. Johns Country Day School since August of 2004, where he taught physical education.
Porter brings with him 29 years of competitive coaching experience. Thirteen of those years were spent as an assistant coach at the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins in Ohio, one of USA Swimming’s Gold Medal Clubs. Porter also served those 13 years as a teacher/coach at the Hawken School in Chesterland, Ohio.
Awarded the 2011 Florida Swimming's Age Group Coach of The Year, Dale Porter’s experience is only equaled by his enthusiasm for teaching and coaching. An established and highly respected coach in Florida Swimming, Porter brings a wealth of experience and a great store of excitement to the Bolles Sharks Age Group program. He has presented talks at the 2012 and 2014 ASCA World Clinics, 2015 San Diego Age Group Coach's Clinic, 2013 Legends of Texas Coach's Clinic, and for USA Swimming's online clinics. He has served USA Swimming as a manager for the 2015 & 2016 Open Water Select Camps, the 2016 National Junior Team Camp., and as an assistant coach for the 2014 National Select Camp. Highly regarded for his outstanding coaching, depth of knowledge, leadership, enthusiasm, and humility, Porter creates an exciting dynamic on the Bolles Sharks coaching staff and within the team itself.

After 4 years with the Stingrays, she decided to leave the program in order to pursue a Master's degree in Kinesiological Science at Jacksonville University.
Coach Claire began coaching for the Bolles Sharks in the fall of 2017 as a lead Makos coach and Age Group assistant. In the fall of 2018, she began working as a full-time assistant with the Senior Program. While coaching with the Sharks, she has been a staff member for the 2018 Central Zone Select Camp and the 2018 National Select Camp. She enjoys coaching for every distance and stroke, and enjoys the challenges of training and seeing hard work pay off for her athletes.
Outside of the pool, Coach Claire works as a foster for homeless pets and spends a lot of time at the beach. She intends to complete her Master's degree in April of 2019.
