A man of Caribbean roots, Coach Jamie was born in Barbados and grew
up in St Lucia, where he competed for the national team for
17 years. He competed at numerous Regional level meets
throughout the Caribbean as well as the Pan American Games,
Commonwealth Games, LC World Championships, and the Sydney
Olympic Games. Awarded Male swimmer of the year 8 times by the
Ministry of Youth and Sport Development, Jamie was always a very
competitive multi sport athlete.
He attended Pinecrest High School for two years on an Olympic
Solidarity Scholarship, and was awarded most improved swimmer in
his senior year, as well as camp counselor of the year at the world
renowned Pinecrest Swim Camp. He went on to become a
scholarship student athlete at the University of Kentucky, and was
a 2 year letter winner, and member of the (SEC) conference
team. He transferred to the University of Tampa to complete a
BS in Marketing, where he competed for the Spartans at the NCAA
Division II Championships in his JR & SR year, becoming a two
time NCAA All-American.
Jamie began his coaching career in 2007. He founded the Sharks
Swim Club and was Head Coach for 9 years and National team coach
for St Lucia for 10 years. He coached throughout the Caribbean
region at several Championship meets, as well as the Commonwealth
Youth Games, Youth Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Pan American
Games, numerous SC and LC World Championships and the 2016 Rio
Olympics. His coaching accolades include Five time National
Coach of the Year of the Saint Lucia Aquatics Federation, as well
as coach of the year amongst all sporting disciplines by the
Ministry of Youth and Sport of Saint Lucia.
His coaching philosophy has always been centered around KAIZEN, a
Japanese philosophy focused on continuous improvement. If
there was one component swimmers could focus on everyday, Jamie
would advise them to think Technique, Technique,
Technique!!! He believes that's kids must understand why they
choose to swim, in order to appreciate the journey and take
ownership for what they desire out of the sport.
Being involved in many different sports growing up, he understands
swimming is a tough sport, however being on a Swim Team is an
incredible experience for all ages, and creating a fun environment
where kids and adults can thrive is what's it's all about.
