THORGUARD-

We are fortunate to have a Thorguard system at our facility. This is a primary tool used by the coaches to determine potential schedule changes. A link to our Thorguard website is available here.

 Inclement Weather Policy:

THUNDERSTORMS-

Pool schedule disruptions due to thunderstorms are fairly common here in central Florida, especially during the summer and fall months.

When possible, SLAC staff will try to make determinations about scheduled lessons at least ½ hour in advance. We will look at each individual lesson time on it's own in most all cases. A cancelation at 4pm may not mean one at 4:40... Each class time will be messaged seperately about their cancelation. {Please know that sometimes, pop up storms can prevent us from being able to provide the 1/2 hour notice. In either case, should we need to cancel, we will notify families via contact emails shared with us in the Jackrabbit Parent Portal. We also have text message notification ability. This requires your consent (OPT IN) which you can allow on your account page in the Parent Portal where you enter your contact phone number.

If a lesson is cancelled prior to its start, or before completion of ½ of the day’s scheduled time, we will allow parents to schedule Makeups. Makeups can be scheduled using our parent portal. Makeups are restricted to days/times where space is available, but we do try to leave a few spots each day for these makeups during the summer and fall months. Lessons that are able to complete at least ½ the scheduled time without interruption are considered completed.

We are fortunate to have a Thorguard system at the NTC facility. This is a primary tool used by the SLAC staff to determine potential schedule changes. A link to our Thorguard website is available here

Should hurricanes or other more severe weather disrupt our schedule, coaches will try to give at least 24-48 hours notice.

  • As a reminder, if weather should affect our lessons schedule we will notify everyone via email and text messaging. Text messaging requires an OPT IN which you can do by visiting the Contacts page of your parent portal. Text messaging will only be used for such updates and OPT IN is strongly encouraged for all as thunderstorms are a common occurrence in the summers here.

  • Please do not call our number, email, or call the NTC front desk, on stormy days to ask if lessons will go on. If we need to cancel, South Lake Aquatics staff will put our energies into reaching you. Otherwise, we will be preparing for lessons and/or teaching others and those tasks need to avoid disruption. The NTC front desk staff will not be aware of South Lake Aquatics scheduling.

  • On stormy days, we will use the facility's Thorguard system to make calls on lessons. A link to our Thorguard website is available here

COOLER WEATHER-

On rare days during the winter months we can find ourselves dealing with some chilly temperatures. As the NTC pool is heated, cooler weather is not typically a problem. But, we will follow these guidelines should we feel the need to alter our practice schedule.

During the winter months, the NTC will close the pool should the air temperature be below 40 degrees. This typically will only affect morning sessions and so cancelation notices will come the night before.

During the winter months, should air temperatures be sustained under 50 degrees, we may cancel SwimFit/Private Lessons. Those decisions will be made the day of practice at least ½ hour before practice start time and notice will be sent as it is for thunderstorms.

Pool temperatures can also cause cancelations in the fall/winter/spring. The vast majority of the year, the pool temperature will vary between 78-84 degrees thanks to the larger heaters and pool chillers. Should the temperature vary more than 2 degrees outside this range, SLAC staff may make the decision to cancel lessons. Those decisions will be made the day of the lesson at least ½ hour before the scheduled start time and notice will be sent as it is for thunderstorms.
